Perfect size, portable, and easy to clean
I have a metal table on my deck so I wasn't particularly worried about fireproofing it, but I did want to avoid a mess when I used my small wood-burning camp stove (which is roughly the size of the Solo Stove Mesa) to keep warm when socializing int he evenings. This mat is the PERFECT size. Enough to keep any stray ashes or embers under control but not so big that it takes over the table. This mat is lightweight and easy to carry, and easy to clean. If you have water nearby you can just wipe it off and if not you can roll it up with the ashes on the inside until you have a chance to wipe it off. It is best to roll it up vs. fold it. If I were ever to give a little stove as a gift, I'd be sure to gift this along with it to complete the set.

Does what it claims, should ship it rolled
We recently got a tabletop fire pit in addition to a variety of other tablet top flame pits, so this mat seemed like an important idea.We got three layers of protection and it's not until it arrived that I saw that there is a 5-layer one too! I had FOMO until I saw that they both give up to 1,800 degrees of protection. You don't have to be using fire to use this, though. If you're working with anything messy it's handy to put this under it to make for a quicker cleanup when you're done. The description says it has a smooth surface, but actually it's textured - one side verrrry slightly more so than the other. It cleans pretty easily though. It has a well-sewn hem around the edge, and I wish it had been shipped rolled up instead of folded, as the folds haven't quite worked themselves out yet. There is a note in the description that says "To extend the life of the mat, keep 5 inches between the bottom of the fire pit and the mat." I don't know what that means. None of the pictures have it propped up 5", nor does the video, and I don't know that it would be safe, or necessary, to do so. Maybe it means 5cm?I don't think there is a top or bottom to the 3-layer mat because both outside layers are made of "fireproof silicone coating." The 5-layer may have a top, as shown in the picture, but it's silver and the bottom is black, so easy to distinguish. To test the mat I used a peanut lighter and held the flame beneath it until it started to smoke. Of course you can feel the heat on the other side, and it left a black burn mark where the flame was, but I wiped it off and it did leave a mark, but barely. As best I can tell, the flame was 1100-1500 degrees F (You'll read that butane is supposed to burn up to 3,590 F, but butane lighters have a yellow flame because they don't have the ideal oxygen ratio with no heat transfer to the surrounding air, and the yellow flame is cooler).Good value for the price, and for a few dollars more you can get the 5-layer if you prefer.

Well made, great size feels soft made of fiberglass silicon
This is a deceptively simple product. This mat is for small table top firepits/wood burning stoves. It is 18 inches across and made of two layers of fiberglass surrounding silicon. It is surprisingly thin, but seems thick enough to do that job. In my photos I place it under my small fire pit. The green thing is a 10 inch diameter plastic plate to give you a sense of style. With this pad, I’ll feel comfortable using this one wood or plastic picnic tables. On the ground it will provide an addition safe space around the fire pit. An inexpensive item for additional piece of mind and protection for you other things. The close up of the covered seam that goes around the entire edge. The sewing is even and done well.

Nice for indoor fire pits
These are large and great for indoor fire pits, candles, or anything else that may get warm. Protects the furniture from heat and drips. Would be great outdoors on tabletops too! I have a couple of tabletop outdoor citronella burners that I will be using this with also.

Fire Mat for SMALL tabletop fire pits
This mat is the perfect size for the smaller tabletop wood burning fire pits. It's very useful to have this mat under the fire pit to catch bits of ash that often float up when burning wood in the pit. When ash fell on this mat, there were no signs of burns or melting. This proves to me that it's fire resistant and protects the table as I need. It's lightweight and easy to store when not in use. Good quality and value.

Nicely finished edges, but came creased from shipping
We use a small tabletop bbq for camping and like to cook at waist level for safety and comfort. This pad gives us peace of mind that the heat wont damage our camp table nor the wooden tables we find at parks and campsites. I was disappointed that it was folded for shipping, but the creases don’t appear to also be damage. The mat lays flat but I wish there was some sort of mark to distinguish whether there is a top side. We now store this rolled and bound with a cloth-covered elastic band. I’ve used a mat of similar material for our electric stovetop so I feel confident it will serve its purpose, but I would not assume it is completely fire proof. I am happy that the edge is finished with a sewn ribbon to prevent fraying, but not sure that material will withstand a burning ember. No one should leave a bbq unattended so I think as long as you flick off burning embers quickly, this mat should protect your tabletop under the bbq nicely. Just four stars for the creasing from shipping and the lack of mark to identify if there is a top vs bottom side.

Not cheaply made and appears to give the protection I need
I got this because my tabletop fire pit gets very hot and I just don't trust the little mat that came with it. This larger mat allows me to have a wider protective surface extending out from the smaller mat. This mat is nicely made and I can see no flaws in it. Time will tell if the mat lasts through repeated firings of my fir pit. Either way, the $16 price seems appropriate to me.

Prefect for my solo stove.
Got a small stove (6.7"), this has a good amount of space around it that it protects. Awesome
