So I wanted to try out sous vide cooking but wasn't ready drop drop a lot of cash in case I didn't care for it. I found this model at a bulk retailer. Here's what I learned...Setting the temperature and the time isn't too hard. The dial on the outside edge of the top rotates. You just have to figure out the sequence of buttons to hit which is probably in the instructions but I never read those things.Anyhow, it doesn't take long to get warm water up to temp for most cooking applications and seems to hold pretty well. The propeller that circulates the water is obviously working because I can see the water moving. So short story is, the thing works.On cooking sous vide. I love it. I don't want to cook most cuts of meat any other way. I used it to make rib eye steaks a couple weeks back and I nearly cried tears of joy over how delicious it is. I used to hate grilling rib eyes because as the fat renders off my grill would turn into a grease fire which ruins the flavor. Now I cook it a couple hours in a water bath and i know it's perfectly cooked all the way through and fully pasteurized. I heat up a cast iron skillet nice and hot and sear each side for a minute to give it a nice brown crust.I ended up buying an Anova sous vide during Prime Day for my dad as a gift. That one is more intuitive to use and has some nicer features. In many ways you get what you pay for. But honestly I'm tempted to pick up another one of these or even two for the price so that I can cook multiple things at varying levels of doneness at once.
