I just bought a second pair
I love these so much that I just bought a second pair to keep in our RV.One of my biggest kitchen discoveries in 2018 was the "spatchcock". It's a funny word, but it's an amazing thing. Picture the rack of birds at El Pollo Loco flopped out on their bellies with their legs splayed out. This method cooks the bird faster and better than any other method I've seen. To spatchcock the bird, you turn it upside down resting on its breast, hold it by the little tail nub, and use shears to cut down either side of the spine to remove the backbone. With the backbone gone, you gently spread it open and pierce the muscle above the breastbone to relax the breast and spread the bird flat. Finally, you run a finger down both sides of the breastbone to loosen it up and then remove it.Fast-forward to Thanksgiving day when I tried this with my old pair of kitchen shears. What a circus. Those cheap shears just couldn't get through the turkey's ribs. I actually broke one of the handles off those shears.I wanted to cook more turkey spatchcocks before Christmas, so I bought a pair of these heavy-duty shears. THEY ARE AMAZING!!!!! The job went so much faster and the big bird didn't put any stress on them at all. I cooked three more turkeys this way and a couple of chickens since then. After I used these in my RV on a camping trip last weekend, I didn't bother to unpack them, I just ordered another pair.

Fantastic value and do the job with ease
Sturdy amd effective these shears not only easily spatchcocked chickens they cut the spines into pieces with very little effort. They cut with ease I was worried that the divot or curve was too small and I'd still engineer it a bit larger with a cavity to allow for larger bones and cutting angle but again these did the job with utter ease even how they are ergonomically designed to be used and for the value these are a solid addition to the knife rack

It's fine, regardless of the bad reviews
I've used this twice, so I can't speak for the durability. But it's heavy, sturdy, seems well made, and does the job. Works fine for what it's supposed to do. It's sharp enough to cut what it's intended to cut; I don't understand these people who think it should be able to slice paper or whatever. I also don't understand the complaints about the handle being too slippery. I was using it with thoroughly greasy hands, and I was able to hold it without issues. Those with holding problems are apparently not astute enough to just wrap the handles with waterproof gaffer's tape or something. Honestly - some people just seem to want to complain and not just solve their first-world problems.

Definitely recommend
Waited a while to give review to be sure of how pleased we would be with product. Can definitely assure anyone this is a kitchen tool you do not want to be without. Has been used to split open chicken and turkey carcass for easier cooking and works like a dream. Definitely recommend!

Couple of flaws
I bought these to cut up raw chicken... flesh, tendons, all bones. The shears appear to be well made and sturdy. But, they don't do the job well that I need to be done. First, the grips... once your hands are wet or greasy, your hands will slide down the handles as there is no stop. One commenter said to wrap tape or such on the handle to create a stop. Yes, you can do that, the tape would become unsanitary. And, I don't think it makes sense to buy tools that need to be adapted to do the job you want to be done. Second, while the leading edge of about 2 inches does a fine job of cutting flesh and tendons, they cannot cut through any but the smallest of bones. And, the cutout in the blade designed to cut bones is hard to place on larger bones. Plus, it lacks enough mechanical advantage to easily cut through medium and large bones... note too I am talking about chicken bones which generally are a lot easier to cut than beef bones and etc. Finally, the backs of the handles are steel and have a latching mechanism to keep the blades closed for storage. I found myself "nipping" my belly with the back of the shears as I worked at a kitchen counter. Ouch. Now, this is probably peculiar to me...but I did it multiple times. I am not inclined to alter my stance to accommodate the shears... certainly not when there are other shears without this "feature". So, overall I gave it 3 stars.... good but not great and with some flaws.

These will probably never see a kitchen…
I bought these shears to cut leather, plastic, rubber, canvas and the like. I chose these because of the full-tang handles, hoping for durability, and I have yet to be disappointed. I really don’t expect to have any difficulties with anything short of metals and I neither intend to use them for metal, nor do I recommend them for that purpose. Laissez-shear (when in doubt, pun…).

Beats the hell out of kitchen "scissors"
I've used supposed poultry shears and kitchen scissors that took a lot of squeezing and pressure to cut through chicken bones. Not these babies. These are so easy to use and slices right through the ribs of a chicken when spatchcocking. I'm sure they will work just as well for lobster shells. I can't say for sure about turkey just yet but I've got a sneaky suspicion this Thanksgiving will be different. If I do spatchcock a turkey, it will have to go on the smoker. Hum. . .

Poorly engineered clasp to hold closed
The MOC (materials of construct) are well established and chosen. The flaw in the shear is the closure device that is sharp to touch and poorly designed which could cause a laceration. This shear could be lots more popular if minor changes are made in regard to the closure. I have modified mine and use it daily.
