You CAN use carriage bolts or if you MUST maintain "clean appearance" on top. You are gonna have to toe nail the screws in. I bought these because I plan on moving these stairs in the future. thought this might be easier than the old wood stringers. Review: Did the job - Stair risers were symmetrical. Have bought from stores in the past and they seemed to be from different batches and the holes didn’t line up. These did line up perfectly. Well packaged, good delivery.
