Q: Anyone else have trouble getting the height adjustment knob tight enough to hold?

I thought the pole should've set further down on the base but it seems ok. Didn't have any problems with knob being tight enough though.

Q: Is it stable on carpet?

The base is fairly heavy so I imagine it would be stable

Q: Can you take out the fan blades for cleaning?

Yes you can. Page 15 and 16 of the user manual shows you how to do it.
