Information is accessible and easy to follow. Some sections I would have liked more examples, but I am very pleased I bought it.

I like the flow of this book. Using grounded theory for my dissertation and it’s proving useful.

It is not easy to write about academic research design and methods in simple English. Some academics manage to do so but they are few and far between. Melanie Birks and Jane Mills are two such authors. They are an authority in implementing grounded theory (the different iterations are covered). This book is a must for novice grounded theory researchers. Written in plain English, it is an excellent guide in a journey that reserves pitfalls.

Navigating grounded theory is like navigating a vast rainforest with an open mind to so many discoveries. As a PhD student myself, I find it daunting as I was overloaded with so many complex and technical jargons having read about grounded theory from the books of the first and second generation grounded theorists. I really love how Melanie and Jane condensed the complex concepts and made them easy to understand, especially for a student like me whose English was the third language to learn. I also love how they integrated the works of the earlier grounded theorists like Strauss, Glaser, Charmaz, Corbin etc. and their schools of thoughts. It is also awesome that they included in this book the works of their PhD students who used grounded theory methodology because it makes it relatable to us. How the concepts in grounded theory are explained in this book is phenomenal, e.g. theoretical sensitivity, reflexivity, storyline etc. This is book is a must-have for a masters or PhD student like me who is using grounded theory methodology in their research.

I could not obtain this book through any library and needed it for my dissertation. It generally was easy to follow and informative but very unhappy I had to purchase this book as it is not available otherwise.
