Head First C: A Brain-Friendly Guide

Super introduction to the C language.
I am a coding newbie and am starting with C because this is the basis for many other programming languages. This is a very accessible and fun way to get a solid overview of C - including the subtleties of potential pitfalls (e.g. pointers).

somewhat disappointing. (until I realised how much this book covers)
I bought head first 'Go' and thought it was the best bought on programming I'd ever read.So I was very excited to receive this Head first C book. But I find this book a little confusing at times. It reminds me of the school teacher who would often digress and when you're dyslexic digression in text form is tedious.Updated my review from 3 to 4 stars & now 5 stars. Mainly because is full of useful information, presented in an odd way at times, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, as the information does seems to sink in.This book goes into a good level of detail. The more you read of this book the more you understand why it's written the way it was.

Good same standard as most Head First books I read
Things I liked about this book- starts basic- progress is at a good pace- concepts like pointers and compiling/linking well explainedThings I didn't like about this book- nothing,I mean don't get over excited it's not gonna change your life but it's a solid working book that 'does what it says on the tin'

Another winner under the Head First belt.
The 'Head First' books have adopted a style which, while you soon get used to the preamble, (I confess I skip over it these days)keeps the attention of the reader. The learning process is always well structured, and the pace sensible. This is not the worlds most comprehensive reference tomb on the 'C' language; it is a first class introduction to it. Head First C has given me the curiosity to go further, but not before I have read it several more times as with each reading I find I have understood a little more.

Two copies.
So good I bought it twice. First on kindle which I don't get on with and then I bought the dead tree version. Which I much prefer. Guess it's a guilty pleasure. Very well written and not stuffy like other books I've tried.

Good for beginners!
Good book for beginners. I have enjoyed reading through this and have learnt a lot.Unfortunately as you get through it iv found sections that are out of date and no longer working.Would still 100% recommend it as it has great content and good for beginners to understand the core principles of the language.

Been my favorite series, full stop!
Head First series has been my favorite series on introductory level programming books and this one is no exception too. It's easy to follow and easy to understand. Also, very fun to read. The best part is that I can read this book like I read everyday magazines. Very easy and relaxed. Bread book.

Gute Einführung in C
Head First ist ein super Lehrprinzip. Das Buch zeigt einiges der Sprache und geht dabei auch ein bisschen in die Tiefe. Würde ich wieder kaufen.

Great beginner book
Very accessible to beginner programmers, almost a conversational style to the prose, lots of varied methods of conveying ideas and summaries including Q&A type "there are no dumb questions "

Great way to learn
I am a returning adult college student currently studying Computer Science. Having taken 2 courses in each of the following languages; Java, C# and Visual Basic. I must say that the learning style in this book is head and shoulders above the standard language textbooks. I am not saying that I didn't learn anything from the standard textbooks, but the learning curve at times was pretty steep. In addition to that, reading Java (my main language of choice) API documentation sometimes feels like I am speaking another language compared to what is used in the documentation. I think this is because the standard 900 page language textbook, while full of great information, is often dull as corn flakes, and hard to read line by line. So I ended up missing a lot of key terminology. This book, while overly corny at some points, keeps you locked into the content. It is actually really hard to put this book down at times, even though the authors suggest that you take the chapters slow, so the information has time to sink in. I will be looking for more head first titles on other subjects in the future.
