The Broken Empire Series By Mark Lawrence - 3 Book Set

A Villian-Hero
Unlike most stories, our protagonist is a villain who ends up saving the day for his own selfish gain. Author has a descriptive and in-your-face writing style and a compelling ending to the trilogy.

Anti Hero
Please do not expect a light story! This is a fabulously written series. Mark Lawrence is a phenomenal writer. This is about a protaganist who is not a good guy! This is like reading a story about the Punisher. The main character is not mean to be a knight in shining armour. But quite the opposite. If you like a darker read, YOU WILL LOVE IT!!! Both my husband and I loved it enough that we gifted it to a friend.

Favorite book
I've read this series multiple times. I love it so much I got the book cover as a tattoo. Comparable writing to brandon sanderson except better. Much better.

AMAZING!
As a avid reader of all types of fantasy I can assure you this series will not only have you feeling love and hatred towards the main character but also gives both sides of perspective and justification to the actions. The world building will leave your head spinning and oh let's not forget that these 3 books are ALL tied to the other books he wrote as in they take place in the same realm/world. Mark truly gave us a gift with this world he built and I couldn't recommend a better series to start getting into fantasy with. By far my all time favorite series

I picked it up as an easy summer read
This series caught me by surprise, and I was hooked after reading just the demo chapter. I picked it up as an easy summer read, and finished all 3 in about a week. I don't usually care for anti-heroes, but I truly enjoyed the shades of grey in this work, where the main character (and many of his companions) is both a terrible person and a fairly good man. I also enjoyed that even though Jorg is basically a child, this was not young adult fantasy. The interesting world building, moral ambiguity, and gratuitous violence made this a big hit with me, and I have since recommended it to several friends, and purchased the second trilogy for myself.

You'll come to like the irredeemable jerk of a hero.
I love these books. Don't get me wrong, they are not for everyone but if you can remember that it's just a work of fiction and these characters are not real you should enjoy these books even come to live off the characters.

Made it to the end and failed everyone.
The first two books were great. Read all three in a week. The third left the protagonist's main intrest as a side character. The ending could have gone multiple ways that would have had readers satisfied, yet the most disappointing way was chosen. Reading this genre is a great hobby of mine. This is the first time I've read this author's books. I can say that I won't read anymore. It could have been a great read, and a recommendation, sadly it fell short at the end. **** I've had time to cool down. I've been disappointed by plenty of books, movies, and shows in my life. This series is still worth reading. You just have to ignore the ending. The rest of it was thrilling. I will re-read the series again. I am sure I will enjoy it more the second time. It isn't the best, because of the ending, but it is still worth it, if you are into this type of story. I am into this type of story. It is sad, the ending could have gone multiple ways that were all far better than the way it went. I have no idea what the author was thinking.

Fantastic Trilogy
Mark Lawrence's first major series is an amazing piece of work, well written with a great story and the main character, Jorg, is one that's likely to go down in 'grimdark' history as one of the genre's best 'bad boys'.I already own this series (along with most of Mark's other works) and have read it twice, but I bought this three book package as a Christmas present for my mum, who's just read the Game of Thrones books and falled in love with them. I think she's also going to love Jorg !

S re-read to see what I missed first time.
I read this before the other trilogies ( Red Queen and Ancestors) it was kind of hard going. But after reading the other two trilogies and Brothers of the Road, I thought I'd give it another go, but realised I had given it (Broken Empire) away. Hence the re-purchase.Red Queen my favourite though.
