Additional comfort for a decent mattress - DON'T buy if you have an old mattress
First of all I am so shocked at the low reviews, people need to really readjust their expectations! If your mattress is old, uncomfortable and ready for the scrap heap then this is not going to miraculously transform it. You need a new mattress, or a thick memory foam topper that will cost well over £100-£150. This topper is designed to add an additional level of comfort to an already good mattress. If you have loose springs or dips in your mattress then this topper won't do anything to gloss over these issues!I also have to say that comparing the thickness of this to a summer duvet is out and out laughable!!! If you put this over yourself in summer you'd last 30 seconds before you were hyperventilating!Onto the review proper; what you get is a well made/constructed topper which is "smooshy". It has zero support, is flat and made specifically to add a little cushioning to your mattress. We have a good quality memory foam mattress with good support. We wanted this to add a little softness and it works a treat. It fits well over our mattress and meets the standard sizing for a king size.As I say DO NOT buy this for a lumpy, worn and ancient mattress, or if you have a bad back. You need to dig a little deeper into those pockets for that and fork out for a new one! DO buy this if you have a good decent mattress that isn't worn and has good support, but you just want to make it a little softer.

Great mattress topper
This is the second similar Silentnight mattress topper I have owned. I bought the first one for a good quality memory foam mattress that was a good six years old at the time and the most recent for a better quality mattress that is a few months old. I've read that the toppers need to be changed every 3-5yrs, so I've taken the earliest opportunity to do so, albeit there is plenty of mileage left in the original. I turn it top to tail every time I change the bedding to ensure even wear and found that the corner straps hold the topper to the mattress with minimal movement.I have never found the need to get my tape measure out to check the thickness as, each has been consistently both soft, supportive and comfortable over time. There is no extra heat generated. This, after all, is a mattress topper, not a mattress and is designed to provide a secondary function in enhancing the original mattress, not as a sticking plaster over an existing problem.Quality aside, it is currently great value for money, as I paid £43.99 three years ago and only £29.99 this time round.Overall, if bought for the right reasons, I have no hesitation in recommending this mattress topper, which has helped me have a good night's sleep both in comfort and in a bit of luxury.

Check your bed frame first if your mattress is sagging! This type is for comfort, not support.
8 years ago I woke up to severe pain in my right hip sleeping on a hand me down bed frame and mattress. (Piriformis muscle tightness). A new medium firm orthopaedic mattress saw off the problem. I had recurrence recently and could see the mattress had lost the original support in some areas. In desperation (but short of cash) I tried this. It’s great if you want to soften a too firm mattress, but support you it does NOT. A closer look at my 2 part bed frame showed it was a wooden frame with what looks like a thin hardboard skin, covered in cloth… with lots of hollows where the mattress sagged. 5 minutes making finger thickness strips of cardboard ( courtesy of Amazon book deliveries) laying these in the hollows and then placing a large flattened cardboard box on top - the mattress felt like the first day I installed it. £50 wasted and about £700 saved !!!Note: If you buy one to soften a mattress, it’s well made, but good luck ever getting it back in the carry case! If you roll it very tightly to just get back in the plastic bag and then wrestle with the zips whilst kneeling on the outer bag you MIGHT just get it packed again without breaking the zips.

Good quality topper
I have a tempur mattress which is designed to keep you cool at night. However, it is very firm and with an injured shoulder, I was advised by my Sports Masseuse to purchase a mattress topper to ensure there was a bit of give. So, I did my research: I didn’t want a goose feather topper as you get poked by feathers coming out. I didn’t want a memory foam one as my bed is already v firm and I needed something to soften it. So settled for the Deep Air flow one as it advertised as being soft but cool. I chose deep because regular looked too thin. Frankly, I couldn’t see how the Airflow would keep you cool because it’s basically two duvets with a gap between the two, but once you lie on it, they’re pressed together so there’s no airflow! Hence why, if you are menopausal, this mattress topper doesn’t keep you cool, which is very disappointing, as it is really comfortable.I feel a bit conflicted now because I love the comfort but I still have not yet had a good night’s sleep since I put it on the bed last Sunday.I may update this in a few weeks once I have worked out how I really feel about it. I can say I like climbing into bed and snuggling down and falling asleep. After that the night becomes somewhat frustrating and I have to move around to find cooler patches in the bed! Also, I asked for it to be delivered in its own packaging to reduce waste. It arrived with the bag open. Luckily I was in and it wasn’t raining: the day before would have been a disaster!
