Good quality drill bits seem to do the job fine

They have small steps at the cutting tip
I used them for lubricated drilling pilot holes in 4mm stainless steel. They went through like a hot knife through butter. Very impressed.

6mm Cobalt, So much better than cheap bits
Needed to drill holes through 3mm Mild steel bars, the new metal drills l had in a set from Makita failed to make any impression, these however in combination with my pillar drill breezed through the job. l only needed to drill 6 holes but fearful of seeing 1 of these burn out after the 1st 3 or 4 holes, l purchased a pack of 4, l needn't have worried as l believe l could probably make 50 holes with just one bit absolutely excellent.

Best cobalt drills at any price
Very impressed by their cutting ability and longevity. Not cheap but well worth paying if you have hard metal to cutb through.Don't forget to use cutting fluid if you want them to last
