It has an slightly rough texture that I find really pleasing to touch, and makes a nice sound when you tap it. Looks pretty too! The lid is bamboo wood, which is also very good for the environment. Ours got a little splintery on the inside rim after a few months, but fixed it with a moment and a piece of sand paper. It fits perfectly in a standard up-top British kitchen cupboard, length wise. Keeps bread fresh, we use it for pittas and wraps etc, but it fits a standard loaf just about. The plastic, made as it is from bamboo is a more brittle, is almost thin porcelain in feel. I'd say it's big enough to take one of the longer loaves by Hovis or whoever.
