The Crone of Midnight Embers (Myrtlewood Crones Book 1)

Fun to read
I like the characters' personalities, each one unique, carrying from book to book. It is also fun to have the occasional reference to a 21st century artifact. That makes for giggles.

Absolutely delightful
This is a refreshing take on the world of magic. The main characters are older, one just coming into her magic in her 60s. The writing is crisp and entertaining, the plot well developed, and the world interesting. I am looking forward to the next book.

Good rainy day read.
This is the first non teen or pre teen magic book I have found here. Its not even a young adult romance. They are old and bold. This book has a little joy in it for the older reader, and also helps prove the old can feel as young as they choose.

Not my favorite
While this book has a lot of potential, there were too many little issues for me to really like it. I almost wonder if a 3⭐ is too much.1st, how did the editor miss so many glaring mistakes? 2nd, awkward uses of figurative language. For example, in a moment when Delia is experiencing this beautiful, profound, magical moment, the author compares it to rewinding a VCR. What? 3rd, and possibly most importantly, it's an unfinished plot. The climax is so anti-climactic that this simply cannot be a complete story unto itself (even with the intent of making it a series). Typically, I read a lot, and I read quickly. However,I put this book down often and for extended periods of time. So, I will not be going to Crones #2.

good first book
First installments are tricky, balancing character creation with storyline. I enjoyed this one very much - hey! A heroine my age!

Creatively Amazing!
I loved the different descriptions of each character. That made them come alive for me and they meshed well together. If a book keeps me captivated for beginning to end, and if I can see myself reading it again in 5 years, then I think I found my keepers. Absolutely creative and amazed. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Strikes a chord
I greatly enjoyed the Myrtlewood Mysteries series, so thought this would be a fun read as well. It’s even better. As someone who has transitioned from Mother to Crone over the past few years, it’s refreshing to read about women further into the Crone journey who acknowledge their age without being all whiny about it.I will most definitely be reading the full series and can’t wait to start the next book.

Awesome continuation of the myrtlewood adventures!
Loved the new characters and learning more about the old ones. The author weaves them together seamlessly. I would definitely recommend!

An enjoyable yarn
A light-hearted read with endearingly quirky characters. The short chapters, each from the perspective of a particular character, contribute to the story being a page-turner. I read the book in no time and look forward to the continuing adventures of the Crones.
