Honestly, I was a little anxious getting a “cheaper” lens, but it’s great! Especially for videos! Not had any issues with it at all, use it daily, auto focus is on point, lens doesn’t feel super cheap either which is a plus, and it’s fairly lightweight which is always amazing!

I was really sceptical about this lens as the price was really low. But when I tested it (I updated the firmware right away just in case) I was surprised how good this lens works. I bought it exclusively for vlogs, as I decided to do vlogs in 2025, and the focal length, plus the autofocus and image quality, was just great.If you want to vlog, totally recommend, didn’t test with photos yet, but I will when I get to some outdoor places.

This is a difficult one to review, because for many reasons it’s an exceptional lens - although the caveat there is that it’s an exceptional lens *for the price*.Spoiler alert: I ended up returning the lens. That said, I only did so because I was in the fortunate position of being able to replace it with the incredible (but much more pricey) Sony SEL20F18G.The first thing that struck me about the Viltrox was its weight. I have a disability, which means lightweight kit is particularly appealing to me, and at only 157g, this lens certainly ticks that box. It comes with a little soft bag to help keep it protected in your bag.It fitted onto my a7cii nicely, although when you come to attach the hood, that’s a bit more fiddly than I’d have liked. Where you can usually take a lens hood off, turn it around and put it back on without looking, this one requires your full attention as you jiggle it into position.The Viltrox focuses quickly, and is pretty accurate. It’s also quite a quiet lens. Picture quality is generally good - there are better lenses out there, but not anywhere near this price.The old adage is that you get what you pay for - in this case, that’s not quite true. The Viltrox gives you much more than you pay for - I would have been pretty happy with this lens if I’d paid £300, rather than £165. For the price it really is very, very good.I would definitely recommend buying this if you’re looking for a wide and bright lens on a budget. As I’ve said, there are better options, but those options are roughly five-or-more times as expensive.

Spectacularly great especially considering the price. This lens is sharp across the field of view and has minimal flare. It is compact and very lightweight. Highly recommended.

For 165 quid, what is not to like? I have used it for stills and also for video when using a gimbal, the lens is both light and fast. For a while it was permanently on my a7 iii body. I take it with me everywhere. The images were made using the lens. (Yes, the first image is badly framed!)

Not a focal length I use that often so didn't want to pay a fortune for a lens. This lens is very sharp and is well built. Amazed how Viltrox can produce a lens like this at such a low price point. I've used it on a 24 and 60Mp camera and it performs well on both. Glad I purchased it.

I have the 85mm 1.8 Viltrox the 24mm 2.8 Viltrox and now the 20mm 2.8 I use mine for weddings and functions with tight small venues small rooms ect.The quality of focus and build quality for the price is worth every penny . My clients all have loved the images taken by all three lenses. Ie wedding couples and parents of baby shoots .Both with Natural and reflected light or with a speedlight bouncing from a white ceiling .Yes I have some Sony glass but do like a good prime lens that does the job at a fair price.
