Great for starting drill holes
Another fine Klein product. It gives a firm grip on the scratch awl due to the excellent handle. Now I can put a dent in the exact spot I need to start my screw-hole. That's critical when you're installing hinges, or anything that requires multiple screws.

High quality tool
Always wanted one of these to make my life easier as a hole punch for starting screws. This one is a high quality and well-made tool. I would buy it again.

built like a tank
I'm impressed with the quality, strength, and design of this awl. It doesn't fit in the hand like a traditional awl, which have short boulbous handles, but will probably outlast the alternative wood type of awl.

Most “Awl-some”
You can see this little beauty second from the left in the pic I posted. I use this to poke starter holes whenever I’m going the be driving in screws. It’s durable, perfectly sized for my needs and performs its function flawlessly.Sure, I could have purchased something cheaper, but why settle for cheap quality when you can add “heirloom quality” tools to your collection that will go to your son and his son for generations to come?I don’t have a son. I have all daughters, but that’s ok, because the three of them can fight over this tool when I’m gone…it’s THAT GOOD.

Not the same as my missing Proto awl!
Don't drop this tool on concrete on its tip! The steel in this tool is rather soft for the purpose. I dropped it almost as soon as I'd deployed it, and wound up repairing the tip with a grind-stone.It works OK for wood, so I'm keeping it (with champagne cork as protective tip cover). But it's not top quality.

easy to grip
I don't use this as a tool, I keep it on the front seat of my car for personal protection. I have severe arthritis and refuse to just sit at home, so this comes with me. the weight and balance of the tool is good, and the diameter of the rubber handle allows me to grip it securely. bought a couple more, won't be without one. highly recommended.
