Charles Jacobs 25" Aluminium 5 Spoke Star Office Chair Base

I bought this to replace a feeble, fragile 25-inch plastic base on an expensive chair that clearly wasn't fit for purpose and broke over the first few days. This replacement does the job very well. I took the original base off and tapped out the fitment with a soft hammer. It fitted into this replacement base immediately, and I had no problems swapping over the original castors. Overall the chair feels secure and sturdy now, and it's saved me from sending a new chair to the recycling centre. I had no issues with fitment and it's clearly well-made and sturdy.

Easy to replace once I was able to remove the old plastic spokes. Really happy has it has saved me from buying an expensive replacement chair, when the original was in really good condition and did not need to be replaced.

I had to get Amazon Customer service involved for both the return and refund under Amazon A-to-z Guarantee.My issues are as follows;1. Not supplied an item which matches the design shown on your Amazon listing. The reinforcing braces are completely different. I wanted one like the listing not a “new” or “different” design. Before shipping you did not consult with me or get my approval to supply a different item.2. The item supplied is defective in that there are cross braces missing on four of the spokes. These four spokes only have two diagonal braces. The fifth spoke has two sets of “cross” braces.3. There are sharp unfinished edges on at least two of the spoke edges. I have already cut myself.4. Only one of the spoke holes allows a castor to fit all the way into the castor collar. The other holes leave the castor shaft sticking out between 5 and 12mm. They are so tight that they may need to be hammered with the risk of damaging the plastic castor bodies and splitting the mounting holes.Issue 1 alone is grounds to return the item because it is not what I ordered. The other issues relate to quality control and should have been picked up during manufacture and the base rejected.

Bought to replace broken plastic stand, this item is much better

Bought to replace the base for a mid century office chair in which the old base would not fit modern replacement gas lift cylinders because of the smaller diameter.Just as solid but much lighter than the original. Elegant style complements the chair well. Upgrade wheels to rollerblade replacements also and now feels like brand-new, second-hand.

Popped out old broken plastic one, popped this new aluminium one, easy. I selected this as it looks cast rather than welded, so in theory should be less of a risk of the legs snapping. Came well packaged and wrapped in bubble wrap. I wish more sellers were as good as this.
