got the 29ct stone, accidentally dropped it from 6" onto my glass desk, chipped the desk with ease. The stone was unaffected.

Exactly as described
This is a synthetic ruby (as specified), meaning it is chemically identical to a natural ruby (a type of corundum) but less expensive. It's also clearer than most natural rubies, with very few inclusions, and the stones can be reasonably large. The emerald-cut samples that I purchased (two different sizes) will work well as pendants (with the right fittings and a chain). Corundum is an aluminium oxide and forms the basis for both ruby and sapphire. Pure corundum itself is clear. In ruby, some of the aluminum ions are replaced by chromium ions, and that replacement results in the red color. In blue sapphire some of the aluminum ions are replaced by ions or iron or titanium. So sapphire and ruby are both forms of corundum. Corundum is heavy - it has a density of about 4 g/cm3, or four times the weight of an equivalent volume of water. You notice the weight when handling the larger stones - they are heavier than you would think for a typical mineral or glass. Corundum is also extremely hard, and will cut glass.

Pretty!
I don’t know much about rubies, I’m not a jeweler, but one thing I DO know is a that ruby is fluorescent or “will fluoresce” under black light and these definitely react to blacklight. I have purchased 2 and they both have this reaction which makes me happy. They come in a nice little display box.

Just what I hoped for
Beautiful lab created ruby, called it right on getting two. My mother loved hers, just knew I needed one for me too.
