NOT SKYRIM!
im going to make this really clear really quick. if you like fantasy games like skyrim and thats what you want this isnt the game for you. this is a historically accurate RPG, it attempts to emulate life in the middle ages and there fore is difficult. if you want to be an unstoppable badass play skyrim, if you want to live in a world that is slowly decaying play dark souls, if you want high adventure as an mutant monster hunter play the witcher. but if you want realism at its peak in game form, then this is the game for you. i played this at my buddies place a few nights ago. the combat takes some getting used to, but... so does fighting with an actual sword. in this game you play as a human, and have to work your way to being skilled in things. you are not an unstoppable force of nature. this game has no traditional leveling trees for swordsmanship, archery, or health. it also has no traditional difficulty setting, you cant pick how hard its going to be. you need to drink a "potion" (booze) if you wanna save, this is supposed to be like settling in for the night. but you can do this anywhere. but use your saves sparingly because you can get drink by saving too often. all of these things are meant to make you think before you do something. in reality you cant just charge a bunch of people and come out unscathed. you need to stop, assess the situation, and respond accordingly. all these things are represented excellently in the game. if any of these things seem like they would not make the game fun, then you probably shouldn't spend $60 bucks on it. but i love it, and i know there is a market for a game that wants this much realism. be warned though, this is not a game for everyone.

22 Hours in: a Very Frustrating yet Compelling Journey
I really wanted to love this game. Heck, I have a degree in medieval history and was extremely excited by the whole realistic concept. The reality is the game underlying issues (gameplay) are more numerous than the game's most exciting aspects:- Graphics: 6/10- Story: 8/10- Gameplay: 3/10 (0/10 for lockpicking).I have fun in Kingdom Come till there is combat. The story is good and engaging and the world is quite immersive but as soon as you have to draw your sword/bow/lockpicking tools. problems arise. Aplenty. Sadly, it is not something that diminishes a few hours later because you learned how to play the game. The issues are the core mechanics. For instance, the game isnt built to let you fight multiple opponents. Simple as that.I'm used to challenging games, like Dark Souls 3 and its pvp scene, you can call me a tryhard if you want, but the learn-by-your-mistakes aspect of the Soulsborne franchise isnt present here. In Kingdom Come you die not because the enemies are challenging but because you are fighting the combat mechanic itself. Its just that clunky and ultimately not fun, whether you win or you lose. This game badly needs mods to simplify the gameplay: please remove the character's head bobbing movement that in a first person view can easily give you nausea, simplify the lockpicking and the overall combat, introduce the ability to save the game often. This would be just a start. Its obvious the game developer had a very intransigent vision, since they refused to introduce something simple like difficulty level or the ability to disable the most hardcore mechanics.Overall its a refreshing game that requires you to use your brain to figure out the right approach to a conflict (often avoiding combat). Unfortunately when you have to draw your sword everything falls apart. And in the Middle Ages, you couldnt always walk around and resolve disputes in a pacific manner.I truly wanted to like this game, but every time I play there are several frustrating moments, always caused by the lack of polish and by the truly poor gameplay mechanics. I always finish the games I play but in this case I am not sure I will.5/10

A completely unique and amazing experince
I read a lot of reviews for this game before I bought it. It seemed like it got just as much praise as it did ill criticism, so I was a little unsure when I started it. It took a lot of getting used to I'll admit. But once you adjust yourself to it it's nothing short of amazing. If youve read other reviews I'm sure youve heard already that there a lot of "problems". Particularly with the combat and lockpicking aspects of it. I definitely found out what people were talking about very early. Combat is kind of a pain in the ass at first. Lockpicking is even more of an annoyance than combat. But I will say this. Those problems are not deal breakers. Lockpicking becomes easy after you grind for a while. The same can be said for combat. If you want to be good at this game and enjoy it to the fullest, youre just gonna have to grind. Pick every damn lock you can without getting caught and fight every bad guy you can fight. Combat training with the Captain of the guard and reading are also great ways to level up skills. So just stick with it and grind like nobody's business. You'll be more than glad you did.Now that I've tried to explain a little bit about the quirks of this game, I'll tell a bit about what makes it awesome. First off, the story is fantastic. The characters are well developed if you take the time to get to know them. The world is huge and has a lot of depth. The quests are fun and exciting. And there's always something going on around every corner that you can get drawn into and forget what you were even doing there in the first place. You can roam around and screw off like you can in Skyrim or Fallout, become a city's hero, or poison and kill everyone in the world if you want. There's so much freedom and realism in this game that it''s mind blowing. I mean, when you start out you have no idea how to use a weapon or even read. Your'e pretty much an ignorant baffoon. It's so rewarding to see your character come from that to being a hero, a warrior, and an accomplished alchemist. I've played this game through twice and starting my 3rd go round. It's just super fun and an amazing experience. I could go on about it, but nobody wants listen to some regular dude preach all about a video game. I'll just say you really need to give this thing a chance and leave it at that. Take care and happy trails.
