Dolle 'ClickFix 76' Timber Folding Loft Ladder (1200 x 700mm)

I bought this Dolle loft hatch in May 2018 to replace a poorly fitted, drafty ancient loft hatch and death trap aluminium ladder in my 1960s renovation project. It arrived well packaged - wrapped on a pallet, but is modular so can be opened up and carried upstairs in manageable pieces. Fitting the wooden casing took me quite a while as I had to repair and strengthen all the bodged woodwork around the old hatch and make it slightly bigger - but that would have been the case for any new hatch. Once the hole had been prepared though the instructions were very clear for how to fix the casing in place and it is only the casing that needs to be lifted into place at that stage - the door and ladder are fitted later. Once the casing was fitted it felt really solid and fitting the door mechanism and then the door was just a matter of following the instructions. Because my ceiling is way out of level, I opted to fit the hatch perfectly level so the door and ladder are level when in use and then used architrave around the underside to finish the edges rather than the plastic trim that is supplied.As a competent DIYer I found it relatively straightforward to follow the fitting instructions, but would probably recommend getting a pro in if you are not comfortable with working up ladders, and hacking around with the fabric of you ceilings!8 months on and the hatch is a pleasure to use - I can open and close it with one hand due to well balanced and adjustable spring mechanism. It feels rock solid and when I got my thermal camera on it on a frosty day could see no cold spots at all, so that thick insulated door really does its job well - which is the main reason I opted for this make and model. I’ll be buying another one shortly to fit as a new access hatch to a second largely inaccessible area of the loft in the more recently built extension in our house. Can’t say better than that!

Sturdy, well built ladder, will need to make a bigger hole in the ceiling to fit this, though! If you aren't a competent DIYer or above, seek professional help!!!
