Misty [DVD]

Didn't quite cut it for the kids
This was a nice little film that I thought maybe the grandkids would enjoy. They're not jaded by the hype, rude humor and violence in today's fare, but they do enjoy, at ages 8, 6 and 4, a good plot. This film only kept their attention for about 15 to 20 minutes. The story is just a little too unbelievable and the characters, an orphaned boy and girl, a little too-good-to-be true; a little too noble and obedient with never a mistake 100% of the time, ALL the time. And so failed to captivate them. The drama felt "made up", I presume even to the kids, young as they are. Too bad. It really was a nice, clean and decent little film.

Excellent new widescreen DVD of MISTY
Koch DVD has gone the extra mile and released the 1961 family classic MISTY in a properly letterboxed DVD that preserves the original aspect ratio (2:35-1). This is a treat, because previous TV prints and home video releases have always been full frame. The expansive green vistas of the on-location Chincoteague cinematography are breathtaking in widescreen. The film itself remains the same family classic that it was back in 1961, when it was one of the highest-grossing non-Disney family films of the year. I hadn't seen it in decades, so this new DVD is most welcome. The film was produced by Robert Radnitz, who produced several other fine family films as well (ISLAND OF THE BLUE DOLPHINS, SOUNDER, WHERE THE LILIES BLOOM, and MY SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN).

Returning to Chincoteague............love.
Excellent vintage film! We visited Chincoteague Island with my daughter when she was 6, we were eager to see the film. The film style obviously does not compare to today's blockbusters, but this still remains as the go to for our daughter and her friends. The love the story line and all of the characters. If you are thinking about this one, don't overthink it, I bet your kiddos and family would love it!

Double feature movie
Misty is about 2 kids who love her and try to keep her. Wildfire is about a young lady visiting her uncle in the Midwest and connecting with Wildfire.

Heartwarming Story. Wonderful in Original Cinemascope.
This is a wonderful classic story brought to screen that does not disappoint horse-lovers young and old.I kept my fingers crossed that the audio and video quality would be good and that the widescreen description was NOT letterbox. I was not disappointed! The seashore and island scenery is beautiful in the original widescreen production and all other qualities are excellent.I was a 10-year-old, horse-loving girl when the movie was first released and remember my mom taking me to see it. I haven't seen it since then and fell in love with the characters and horses all over again.

Good movie about Misty of Chincoteague.
Good movie about Misty of Chincoteague. They changed a couple of things from the book. One of my favorite places to visit also. I first went there to Chincoteague Island and to Assateague Island when I was ten for the week and we saw the Pony Swim.

FOR THE HORSE LOVER IN YOUR HOUSEHOLD
I loved it as a child. My children loved it as well. Watch the movie. Read the many Misty books! It's all good.

Avoid Wildfire; find Misty somewhere else or just ignore the Wildfire part of this double set
Misty is an old Disney film loosely based on a real horse and children, and is about par for a 1960's era Disney pic. However, Wildfire was pretty awful. Good intentions, but very rank amateur production perhaps pleasing for 'tween age kids with NOTHING IN LIFE better to do than watch this movie. Sorry, but it was a labor loved only by the people who made it, I think.

Looks great
Purchased by mistake, should have been region 2. My wife ordered it and didn't realise that the UK uses region 2.

This is for Misty only.
Two kids learning about responsibility and also coping with the loss of their parents. A different kind of roundup. Braking or gentling, two ways of training a 🐎. A very good story.

I have read the book a few dozen times and was happy with most of the movie
This is a lovely story. I have read the book a few dozen times and was happy with most of the movie. Sadly they changed the ending but not enough to really change the meaning of the story so all is well. I definitely recommend this to all horse lovers or people who want a family movie.
