Essentials of Writing Biomedical Research Papers. Second Edition

Excellent book, period. The principles of good writing Mimi Geiger advocates are sound, practical, and reader centric. What she advocates, she illustrates with a convincing example. Doing the exercises is essential to fully benefit from the book. They are not trivial, and require much work and analysis. I spent days on them. As a result, even though I teach scientific writing for a living, I discovered many aspects of good writing that had eluded me. I am deeply grateful to Professor Zeiger for her book. The book margins are wide and I filled them with my notes. My only regret is that one should have medical training to fully benefit from the book: some of the corrected exercises cannot be appreciated if you lack such training.

This is an outstanding book on how to improve the writing of biomedical research papers. It is well organized, well presented and extremely helpful.I bought several writing books at the same time and this one stands out because not only is it a "how-to" book, but it is a workbook and mostly consists of exercises. There is plenty of space in the book to do the exercises right in the book. This is extremely important, because you can read about the rules for improving your writing, but you really don't learn how to use them until you practice rewriting actual sentences.Significantly, this book has dramatically improved my ability to edit my own papers, which has been one of my nagging writing weaknesses.

I was put on to the first edition of this book years ago at a writing workshop. I quickly came to keep that first edition open by me as I worked through my own manuscripts. This new edition is still better. The author does a nice job with basics of writing and then works hard to put each phase of a biomedical article in context. Each chapter provides extensive examples of a block of text that could use some crafting, and then works through how the text could have been presented or revised to make it stronger. I recommend it to all of my graduate students and to young faculty I mentor.

Bought this to help me write my first manuscript. I was struggling because there was not much input from other collaborators. This book explains every point a manuscript should have, with examples and worksheets.

Was recommended in my manuscript writing class. Allows for practical exercises for correction of style which I did not find in many other books on the same subject.Does not cover review articles or case reports.

I use Zieger's chapters as a guide for my own writing as well as a training tool for my students. The easy to follow guidelines for writing at the end of every chapter are a plus, but the detailed examples are also extremely helpful. A must buy if you are looking for specific examples on how to improve your writing style and content.

This book has useful advice and I particularly appreciate the exercises. However, is surprisingly poorly written and organized for a book about how to write well.

This is very interesting for people wanting to learn how to write a scientific paper book. The literary work brings important information and tips and furthermore presents some exercises.

Aufgrund der in vielen anglo-amerik. Lehrbüchern üblichen einfachen, aber dennoch präzisen Schreibweise ist der Text auch mit Schulenglisch-Kenntnissen gut lesbar und verständlich.

I had to buy this twice because the first one was stolen by a student. This book is solid gold advice. A reference for me and invaluable tool for working with students. You cannot go wrong with this book.
