This the larger shaker and sound really projects and would certainly not have to be miked in smaller venues. In fully acoustic setups you may find yourself trying not too play to loud. The sound is rich, deep and spreads well.The material is some sort of quality tough plastic made to withstand years of heavy gigging.Meinl percussion products are usually top class and this is no exception.

Great sound but plastic is brittle

This shaker is good to use in a big room as it is loud unless it is a recording studio but for a small gathering with close proximity, this will be too much in which I prefer the egg shaker is sufficient enough. But overall, this shaker is great and highly recommended.
