Hongdian D1

What a beautiful pen. It is far shinier than in photos and videos. This pen arrived in a non-descript gray box inside of which was a thin metal tin. Inside the tin, lined in foam was the pen, inside a plastic protective sleeve and a small baggie with a tool to disassemble the piston mechanism. Nice. As the pen was in transit a Hongdian customer service rep, emailed institutions on how to fill and clean then pen as well as a thank you note. I’ve spent lots of money with companies and onto received a receipt, never a personalized thank you. Terrific. I inked it up with Hongdian Peacock Blue ink. It writes smooth and on the wetter side. The breather hole on the nib has a bit of a tear drop shape, different than most nibs I have had experience with. I set out writing several things in 3 different notebooks. The pen is an absolute joy to look at and it is very nice to write with. A pen is an item we often throw in a drawer or a bag and think nothing else about. The finial has Hongdian Fortune Di Lan Tian stamped with the Hongdian logo stamped in the center. It’s an awesome pen I am happy to have in my collection. And, I didn’t have to sacrifice my 401k. Great price. Great looks. Great performance. Great company. 4 Greats.

This is such a pretty pen. I love writing with it as it’s a good weight and writes smoothly without skipping. I’m using a few of my shimmer grey inks without any issues. Good value for the price.

I wish I hadn't gotten the silver. It's a little over the top and looks gaudy, but that's on me. It writes beautifully, with a buttery feel. I love to write with it, but definitely keep it at home.

It’s a very beautiful pen that comes with a little wrench for removing the nib and feed, is not a frequently used item but when you need it’s there! The silver filigree over the blue background is so rich looking with its own stylistic texture almost a renaissance Field! It writes so smoothly. And it really is a piston filler from the outside definitely unusual from most “piston” fountain pens. It is a little bigger but that’s to be expected. Very very happy with it! Thank you so much!

This pen is very easy to fill and writes incredibly smooth. I personally enjoy the fact that it's heavier than a typical ballpoint type pen. I have had no issues at all with ink flow or nib splitting. Highly recommend.

I have a number of fountain pens ranging from expensive to $10 throwaway versions. This is quickly becoming a favorite even though I bought it just for the harder to clean inks (shimmer inks). It has a good balance, decent amount of weight in the hand, and a fantastic ink capacity. The nib is steel (f), with a smooth delivery. It sounds more on the paper than my 18-23K gold nibs, but it never catches or skips. In short, I like it better than some of my much more expensive pens (ie; Pineider $900 pen)! If you like a ~9.8-10mm grip (shaped) and 40g vs 24g mass for pen with and without cap respectively, I think you can’t go wrong with this inexpensive, yet beautiful option.

The Hong Dian D1 is awesome. As a fountain pen collector, I have high expectations, and they were fulfilled to the fullest. Combining with red rose-scented ink, I can watch the ink move through the glass body. Just beautiful.

The piston seal seems to have failed allowing ink to leak aggressively from the end cap. The pen is very decorative but feels a little on the cheap side, understandable considering the price. If the seal had not failed it would be an ok buy, but with ink all over my hands, I have to advise against buying this pen.

Je trouve l'écriture encore beaucoup trop fine, j'aurais aimé que se soit plus epais et le relief me dérange un peut au niveau de la prise en main

Beautiful, a lovely edition to my pen collection

I bought this pen as a gift for my brother I filled it with ink before sending it to him and couldn't resist the urge to give it a quick try I really liked it it's very well balanced easy to hold and writes beautifully so now I want one for myself as an everyday pen at the price it was you can't go wrong.

Perfect ! Verry smooth. I buyed hongdian ink and it's perfect for the pen. It's easy to refile and you find a lot of vidéo on internet about how to refile and clean your pen.
