AWSOME and interesting
most songs are a little heavier than typical Limp Bizkit but it was still awesome! it has a spark of oldschool slipknot too i noticed. lyrics are as good as ever and its really something i play when im walking round the streets at night too.i recommend pretty much all limp bizkit CDs exept for 'new old songs'. it has loads of tracks but i only like 1 of them. can't wait for Golden Cobra to come into stores!I personally loved Pollution (fantastic ending) and Stuck.

Nu Metal nostalgia trip? Yes please!
Love it or hate it, Nu Metal was essential to the survival / evolution of Metal - it shows today. Many modern bands, under the umbrella term genre of 'Metal' are reverting back to this sort of style - after a prolonged period of virtuosity and shred fests dominating the genre after Nu Metal's slow, painful death in the mid-Noughties. It's cyclical it seems. Despite Korn rightly being hailed as the main progenitors of the genre, it could be argued (strongly in my opinion) that the more textbook example of the genre could be the band that's hated (almost) as much as Nickleback - Limp Bizkit. Why do I say that LB is probably the best definition of Nu Metal? Well for starters, they're arguably the first to take the Hip Hop element further than anyone else - this album being a prime example. You could argue roughly half of this CD or more sounds more Hip Hop than Metal, and Fred Durst's vocal style is definitely more in line with the former more often, and the heavy riffs pepper song as opposed to dominating them, the instrumental aspect is weird mix of Korn-esque weirdness, DJ Lethal's scratching and Wes Borland's unique take on guitar - using a lot of harmonics. The Drum and Bass section is expectedly flawless too.The band relies heavily on the loud/quiet dynamic of the genre and are characteristically downtuned. As good as Nu Metal was in being a gateway for many an angsty teenager into Metal (such as myself), there are elements that haven't aged as well and some are plain cringe...sometimes deliberately so. The meandering instrumentals at the end of most songs (my personal pet hate) really does drag any and all Nu Metal albums down, and this album does feature it, although thankfully not TOO much, it just begs the questions : 'Why are they doing this? What's the point? Is this going anywhere?' which sadly, is often answered with a resounding 'no.' What's more frustrating, is that when they do this for a single track, with some sort of purpose (15 minute closer 'Everything') ...it's actually pretty good, and is the closest thing in the 'Bizkit catalogue I've come across that could be described as 'beautiful' - and it really is!This is a great album, littered with great, genre-bending songs that mostly work well. For every riff focused, Metal onslaught of 'Pollution' and 'Counterfeit' there is more laid back, Hip Hop tune like 'Indigo Flow,' they're mostly great and there's definitely something for everyone who is a fan of one or both genres, while of course there are a couple of fillers, and the 'are they or aren't sarcastic?' cover of George Michaels' 'Faith' ticks the final Nu Metal checklist resoundingly.Often cited as LB's best LP (see what I did there!?), even Zakk Wylde cannot deny that this is a great album, for me it doesn't quite deserve 5 stars, perhaps it's because I'm a grumpy man in his mid-30s as opposed to the angsty teen who should've bought this at the time, but, it doesn't quite reach perfection for me. However, as far as a pure-Nu Metal debut album goes, there is very few I can think of that tops this, give it another go, it's better than you remember, and definitely better than what the LB Hate Poilce give it credit for, they're all Counterfeit!
