Incredibly stupid question I know..... but can this be used as a watch while not diving?

Yes, it can be used, but it is a bit big in size ....

My partner likes to free dive & wants a watch to monitor how far he swims / snorkles. Not interested in a fit bit looking watch.Would this be suitable

If i've understood correctly, I dont think this would be fit for your partners purpose. The cressi has a Gage mode which effectively turns it into a bottom timer for scuba/apnea diving, but that's as far as its able to go. If you want it tracking distance then you might be better off with one of the GPS watches offered by the likes of your Suunto's or Garmin's. Hope this helps

how do i search for time the dive started in the logs section,,as it shows the dive time but not when i descended..please help

If you find out and bring up any data from previous dives please put it on here. So far it's been impossible to retrieve anything from it. Good luck.

have cressi solved the problem of computers not re starting after a battery change ?

I can’t speak to whether there is a deeper underlying problem that has gone unfixed, but can provide the data point that I have done a battery change without issue.
