Worked great in my 1997 Tacoma
I purchased these to install on my 1997 Toyota Tacoma. The lock in my driver-side door was starting to degrade, so I decided to find a replacement before my key broke off.First of all, the pictures of the product are slightly confusing because they show two sets of keys (one for the door locks and one for the ignition switch). However, I'm thankful that only one key is needed for both the locks and the ignition switch. I've included a picture with everything that comes in the set. I'm glad this set comes with both the locks and ignition switch because many comparable products sell them separately with two different keys. If your Tacoma has a lock on its gas cap like mine, then the number of keys start adding up fast! The door lock was simple to install. I have the 2.4L RWD Tacoma with crank windows, so I just needed to pop the door panel off. Then I just took off one bolt and detached the plastic fastener thing (not sure if it has a technical name) to get the old lock out. I also replaced the door handle and cleaned out the door latch mechanism at the same time since it wasn't too much extra work. I would highly recommend cleaning out the door latch mechanism if possible, as it will dramatically prolong the life of your locks and your door handle. The second picture attached to this review shows the old lock (left) next to the new lock (right). So far I'm happy with the new lock, but it takes a little jiggling to get the key in at first. I think this is because of the rough edges of the key. I'm hoping the edges wear down over time so it goes in more smoothly. I noticed that the locks come pre-lubricated, but I applied graphite lock lubricant (do not use normal lubricant on locks) to help the key go in a bit easier. It didn't help very much, so I think I'll just wait for the key to wear down a bit.Overall, this product is well-made, and it's comparable in price to the others I've seen on the market. The largest selling point for me is that one key works on the doors and ignition switch.
