Q: how often do you replace these? can they be rinsed off for a few months before having to replace?

Every month I rinse them with a hose with a dispenser that gives a very good water pressure which makes them look brand new. I've used them for 6 months and have not had to change any of them. The coarse fine filters are still good.

Q: I presume these filters can be cleaned md reused. What is the best way to clean them?

They will get pretty gross over time. You want to wash them in aquarium water, not clean new water.
