A niche gem
This book contains a history of one of the UK's great rock venues that most people will never have heard of. A brief scan (pun intended for those in the know) of the list of acts that appeared here reads like a who's who of rock. It also contains some interesting anecdotes that provide insights both into the world of music booking and event promotion, and of the author himself. Those of us fortunate enough to have been part of the heyday of this remarkable place can, (and often still do), dine out on stories of the acts we saw there.

A fantastic record of a fanrastic venue.
An excellent record of a well spent youth. Living in Lancaster, we didn't realise how lucky were. It was great looking through the book and reliving gigs we went to and bemoaning the ones we missed.

A trip down memory lane
I was a student at Lancaster from 1969 to 1973 so this book was a fantastic trip down memory lane .The pictures of the bands and tickets from the gigs brought it all back .The detail of the band line ups ,and support acts together with a narrative about the performance was something I never thought I would see in print .I shall treasure it

A bit of a niche book, but can be enjoyed for its wonderful trivia about rock groups obscure and otherwise. If you were lucky enough to be at the concerts it's even more enjoyable.

Memories are made of this.
I have jut finished reading this and enjoyed all of it. I was lucky enough to see a wide range of bands that played there from Clapton to Sparks but without a doubt the most memorable for me was seeing Queen headline there in 1974.

Still remember the music nearly 50 years ago, the book that brought it all back...
I was a student at Lancaster Uni 1969-72, and was a Bouncer, sorry Steward, for some of the time, working mainly the back door next to the dressing rooms with Bob and Waldo, so saw most of the acts as described in the book during that time. So this book brought back so many memories, listening to great music and getting paid for it.Lots of great bands, Who, Deep Purple, Johnny Winter but the best act, Rory Gallagher, simply blew the audience away.Friday night in that era, was to have a quick pint(s) in Cartmel bar then into the Great Hall for the best music ever.
