Product Description After scientists Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and Charlie Holloway (Logan Marshall-Green, Devil) discover mysterious cave drawings that point to the origins of mankind, they soon find themselves aboard the spaceship Prometheus, sponsored by Weyland Industries and on a journey to uncover the secrets of humanity. Overseen by the imperious Meredith Vickers (Charlize Theron, Snow White and the Huntsman), looked after by the android David (Michael Fassbender, X-Men: First Class), and backed up by a team of scientists, Shaw and Holloway arrive on the isolated moon LV-223 to discover an abandoned alien spaceship and the truth… that not all is as it seems... You go to Ridley Scott, of course, spectacle maker and pictorialist par excellence. So Prometheus is bound to be eye filling, with fully wrought planetary vistas and occasionally jaw-dropping visual coups. And did we use the word alien back there? Yes, folks, Prometheus is a prequel, in a sideways sort of fashion, to Scott's 1979 Alien original--or at least it's a long-distant stage setter for that story. This one begins with a space mission that could reveal the extraterrestrial roots of Earth, although what's buried out on the planet turns out to be much more complicated than expected. In the midst of suspenseful episodes (and a few contrived plot turns), Prometheus reaches for Big Answers to Big Questions, in a grand old sci-fi tradition. This lends the movie a hint of metaphysical energy, even if Scott's reach extends well, well beyond his grasp. The hokier moments are carried off with brio by Michael Fassbender (the robot on board), Charlize Theron, and Idris Elba, and then you've got Noomi Rapace entering the badass hall of fame for a long, oh-no-they-didn't sequence involving radical surgery, which might just induce the vapours in a few viewers. Even if Prometheus has its holes, the sheer size of the thing is exciting to be around. Because this movie is gigantic. --Robert Horton.

Updated - the film is MUCH better with the extras
Amended & consolidated review on 24/10/12-I always hold review of the product (before it is actually sold to the masses) with a grain of salt as this forum is for reviewing products you actually buy, and not of the film itself. I feel proper film reviews are better provided by critics or aggregating sites such as IMDB or Rotten Tomatoes. My opinion of the film is personal, it is your duty to form your own ideas, therefore I am only reviewing the product I received.Disc one is the 3D theatrical release. The depth is stunning, there is also a bit of pop-out, but it is exactly the same as the cinema release. You will not get gimmicky pop-til-you-vomit 3D content here. It is more of a layered & deep effect with a few scenes that do have some 'pop'. The 3D you experience will also depend on what television you watch it on, but I was quite impressed on mine. It is a dark film, but it looks amazing on my LG telly, though I do suffer from some weak blacks (LG 42LM620T is what I watched it on), somehow the polarized glasses do make the blacks a bit deeper - though you could tinker in the settings menu for weeks to achieve the picture you want - that is on you. I was happy with what I experienced on my equipment (and yes, I tinkered forever to get the right balance before watching the film).Disc two is where you find the 2D version, the extras, the extended bits and deleted scenes. Some of them help, some were a bit unnecessary. This is in 2D of course, but it explained some of the questions I had. No spoilers going here though, you will have to see it for yourself.Disc three is the documentaries, production stuff etc. I found it to be very helpful in getting you to understand the film, it wasn't just a bunch of filler as I suspected it would be. There are many movies that add more, and rarely does this add much to the film - in this case it actually helped a lot!The sound in all versions is great; DTS HD Master Audio sounds fantastic and immersive on my home cinema system - you can feel the Prometheus landing from the rumbling bass! Dialogue was clear, and the underlying soundtrack/score was more ethereal than overwhelming. The sound is output in 7.1 surround; I have a 5.1 system (the surround effects were accurately localised in the sound field, even with the extra 2 channels missing in my system). I am doubtful the movie would be as audibly immersive on just inbuilt TV speakers.Unfortunately, the disc booting times are quite long (close to 60 seconds plus in my case), this could be my player (I have Samsung BD-E6100 Samsung BD-E6100 3D Smart Blu-ray Player with Built-in Wi-Fi (New for 2012)) - however I think it is due to the massive menus you get when loading the disc up. I also had an error in the BD-Live feature, though when it did work, it was only advertisements for future/past releases by Fox - not worth the wait or download in my opinion. There is an app called Prometheus Second Screen (both iPad & Android versions are available - the disc cover only says there is the Apple version). It is a bit tedious to get working properly and it is a rather large download for an Android app (I have an Advent Vega with custom ROM) at 50ish MB. In all honesty, I could have gone without the app; I experienced a rather large amount of frustration getting it to link to my tablet & phone to see the extra stuff. I still am not sure if it worked correctly, as I gave up with the ordeal after a few hrs, though when it did link up, a few more options became available - they didn't appear to be critical to the movie plot. However, I have read that the original Spaights script was included in the app but sadly I was unable to find it - this was the main reason I downloaded the app in the first place. If someone could figure this out, I would be grateful for a few pointers, though I have now placed the script on the rumour and unconfirmed shelf; there are conflicting stories of the existence of the script on this app, disc or internet right now so I am skeptical of the veracity of the script rumour. You will have to watch the documentaries on the third disc to hear what was omitted from his (J. Spaights) script for the original story before Lindelof had his way with it, or you can ask Uncle Google for some answers via the many forums dedicated to the film.Packaging is so-so. It looks much nicer in the pictures on Amazon than how it arrived. It's 'dull' - not as flashy as you would hope for a special edition, the outer box has a shiny 'foil' effect, but this was mimicked in the plastic blu-ray sleeve to disappointing effect, it was basically a non-shiny version of the outside box with rather dull and boring colouring. The internal box was shrink-wrapped in plastic - though on this occasion I didn't have too much of a struggle removing it. You also get the serial number to download the film for your portable devices, though I hope I can gift this to a mate rather than keep it for myself - I will have to figure out if this is allowed or not. A few of the discs (the 3D one in particular) were difficult to pop out of the holder and I was worried I would accidentally scratch the disc in the process. After I got all the discs out, I arranged them in the order I felt they should be and with ease and minimal damage in mind. Shipping was quick of course with Amazon Prime; my disc arrived on the delivery date with my regular post.If you liked this film but had loads of questions as I did, disc 2 helps a bit more - after watching the documentary disc, then you really start to understand the film. The extended/deleted scenes could be helpful in explaining the plot and offering a different perspective, though this is your own opinion to form. The documentary/production extras did a vast amount to improve the film in my opinion. I would consider this to be a must-see for the Alien franchise fan, all 6ish hours of it!After seeing the extra features, and the film several times now in both the 3D version & 2D (with extras) I would say you should go for it, that is if you're a fan of the Alien - Weyland universe. My original disappointment with the film I saw in the cinema has subsided a little bit with this extra content. I still wish for a slightly better plot, but again this is my own opinion. I do have a sneaking suspicion that there will be a price drop quite soon, or a super-extended ultra mega edition some point in the near future, but I'm happy with what I got. As the advert states, "Questions will be answered".

We were so wrong...
... It's not a Prequel. It's a new film in the Alien universe with a separate storyline. I was disappointed it did not show a back story to Alien 1979 but also pleased that Ridley produced a sci-fi masterclass. A simple script that barely juggled big topics but it was good enough for a theatrical release. I suspect Fox had a hand with it being different from Alien, but Ridley in conferences held for Prometheus did say it is not a Prequel. That said a lot of ignorant Alien fans continued to dream stubbornly for a Alien prequel and got a big shock on June first 2012.I was shocked but ultimately pleased. i long to see it again on the big screen but time is flying. I hope the blu-ray will contain extra conetnt with a bit of more gore, action and interesting dialogue cut out for commercial or for the theatrical release. i will buy the dvd first because i suspect more content is being rallied by Scott for all our viewing necessities.I will update this Pre-Order/ post movie cinema review when i have the dvd. Do not be thrown off by negative reviews or high rated reviews like mine. a digital release will come out when dvd release is made. rent it and watch then get a feel and reconnect with a sci-fi world. switch off feelings of Alien Prequel disappointment and i hope you will enjoy it.UPDATE!!!!ok BLURAY trasnfer is great. sound is very good. picture quality if crystal clear depending on your hd tv and how clean your screen is! lol!i watched the special features on here and realised why they never made it to the full cut. however the engineers on the waterfall should have stayed in because it had sentimental values - one sacrificed to create life. maybe it was a sentence for punishment. redemption by sacrifice for a new world void of intelligent life. There are references to BLADE RUNNER inside the Weyland files. Weyland speaks of a man who implanted memories into the brains of his androids and they killed him for this silly act.another thing i find worrying is that i need a tablet or some kind of "Ipad" to watch the other special features via wi-fi connected to my blu-ray. i found that annoying. do i need to buy this contraption to enjoy the film? that is why i like Universal blu-rays for their picture in picture features all in one screen connected to my PC!i still stand by my ground and say it is not a prequel. it is a different take which concentrates on the bigger picture which was missed in the 80s - who are the space jockies? the sequel is gonna be about a planet called Paradise. maybe the sequel to the sequel will be HELL/HADES: XENOMORPH HOME WORLD and we might get to see Predators hunting everything and marines with steroid pumped muscles and trigger happy fingers and smart mouthed grunts and the usual actress with the Ripleyesque role. We know what to expect now. let's just enjoy a good sci-fi flick
