Guittard Butterscotch Chips, 12-Ounce (Pack of 6)

I hesitated to order this item during the hottest days of summer but, I was completely out. This is the only product that will work for those that have a food sensitivity….and the butterscotch chip taste is second to none (we have tried them all). This goes into a favorite family desert so, there is no sub. Another review indicated that had been previously left… indicated the company took care with shipping during high temps. I was so pleased to see the speedy shipping along with the ice packs/thermal lining when I opened the box. Thank you so much! I’m set for a year!

I read the reviews before I ordered this product, and I can tell you that the company DID find a way to ship without melting the butterscotch chips in the month of may to a location in the mid-south. The chips were packaged in insulated material with 4 cold packs inside--two cold packs on the top of the chips and and two cold packs on the bottom, and shipping was very quick.As to the taste, I have never tasted such good butterscotch chips in my life! We make a cookie bar with a chocolate/butterscotch on top that the whole family loves, and these will be perfect. (Crunch Cookies: Heat 3/4 cup brown sugar and 3/4 cup light corn syrup just below boiling point and stir together and take off the heat. Stir in 12 oz.crunchy peanut butter--or smooth if you don't like crunchy--and then 5 cups crispy rice cereal. Grease a 9X13" pan and pat mixture in the pan. Then melt 6 oz. chocolate chips and 6 oz. butterscotch chips together on low heat. Spread over cereal mixture that is in the pan. Cool and cut into squares.)

I bought these to use in my annual "Christmas Crack" which is similar to almond bark but with butterscotch added. I was tired of trying to melt the another brand name's butterscotch morsels. Other reviews had mentioned that their's had arrived melted so I assumed it had to do with the time of year and exposure to heat during shipping. I ordered them in the fall when the weather was cold.Sadly, despite my planning these arrived somewhat melted together, at least half of each bag had fused into one big bag-shaped chunk - all 6 bags - then , ironically, when I melted them over a double boiler it took a loooo---nnnng time and a lot of stirring to get the butterscotch to melt completely. The butterscotch flavor was more delicate and not as pronounced as the "other" brand. While the taste was ok it did not work as well nor did the end result have the flavor punch that my "crack" usually has. It may be fine for other uses, just didn't work for me.To preface my next statement: I'm not trying to sound snobby or judgemental, I only say this because, when it comes to sweets, I consider myself to have a somewhat more sophisticated palette than many other Americans. I do not like the commercially made candy bars which seem to often taste stale with subpar ingredients like old nuts, wafers that lack crispness, and oversweet milk chocolate that lacks actual chocolate flavor. I am sad to say that I was disappointed in these Guittard butterscotch chips.I still have one bag left and hoped I could at least use it up to add to cookies for my next get together, but it's just a giant blob with only a few loose morsels left. Sadly, it will likely end up in the trash because I have no use for it otherwise.

My bags of chips arrived in perfect condition in July, no melting issues. I like that these use cane sugar and contain no soy. The taste is great, not fake or artificial.

The butterscotch chips melted completely. They were unusable as chips.

Compared to a leading brand I used for years, this one is very rich, smooth and creamy. The “N” brand has changed their recipe and there’s been a lot of backlash (me included) due to texture and lack of flavor. With Guittard, you certainly get what you pay for ~ excellent product.

"I love their butterscotch chips they are very good quality, the problem was that they were packed so tight in a bag that they melted and instead of chips a received bars of bs chips...They should try to find a better packing method."Btw, the company contacted me and apologized for the melting and said they were going to try to come up with a better way of packing these chips(hot weather is not helping). Good customer service...that gives them one more star besides the product tastes delicious!
