MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE-; MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE II-; MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE III- Review: Perfect Escapism - for about £3 a movie! - Recently, I've been accusing myself of watching too much of and too serious movies - art house, World; serious, worthy, Oscar-winning, you know the sort. I needed a holiday from those and to leave my brain elsewhere, at least for a few hours, to save it from self-implosion. Enter the Mission Impossible series of movies - ones I'd seen before and one (the second) at the cinema. What's good about them is they're not stupid; far-fetched, yes but not in a completely moronic, absolutely ridiculous way and they feature some great, well known and recognisable actors. Tom Cruise, Jon Voight, Vanessa Redgrave, Kristen Scott-Thomas and Jean Reno - and that's just the first film - all make for great viewing, a pleasure to watch and to focus on if the actions slips, or should we lose concentration. Those last two things are unlikely to happen, though - these are essentially James Bond's in different clothing, niftly directed by top directors - Brian de Palma, John Woo and JJ Abrams, three of the biggest action flick makers working today. Those old enough will be familiar with the M:I theme tune, that needs no introduction once we hear the first few notes and even the remixes used for the end credits sound pretty good! Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise), though, isn't Jason Bourne and MIP's aren't quite at the level of smart sophistication of the Bourne quadrilogy, but are more fun and accessible and share Europe for the locations, making them a fast-paced and rather daring whistle-stop tour of our EU neighbours' finest cities. This makes a nice, more local change to all those action movies set in L.A. and Chicago etc. The set is housed in a stout card slipcase and the discs come in separate slim-line cases. I don't go for extras and all that; with the amount of DVDs I enjoy, I need them to be as low cost as reasonably possible and this is where M:I "Extreme" DVD trilogy really scores - at around 3 quid a movie, or £1.25 an hour, well that's one mission that's not impossible! Review: Classic Boxset - I have all 4 Mission Impossible films on DVD and I bought this as a replacement for the first 3, and it was a good decision. The original film personally I think is relatively weak, I enjoyed it at the time but now it's a fairly low thrills film with average technology. The face masks are still revolutionary however, some definitely aren't and are easy to see through but towards the end, you'll know what one I'm talking about, that change blew me away at the time. The 2nd film is my favourite of the 3 because it paved the way for the vast majority of action films you see today, John Woo is a master of crafting fast paced action films, and this was one of his first attempts at a western film style. I can't get enough of it, everything works very well, OK there are quite a few mistakes in the film - right at the start when Ethan is wearing the glasses, you can very clearly see the camera reflected in his glasses multiple times.. but for a thrill ride it's hard to fault. The 3rd film is just as good as the 2nd, but again in my opinion isn't as good as number 2. Good fun to watch, with huge explosions and well choreographed scenes, Phillip Seymour Hoffman is a legendary villain, and Cruise is also on top form. The picture quality for all 3 is outstanding, I watched them with a gaming headset and the sound was unparalleled, I love it.

Your mission if you choose to take it.....
Why does he say that "You mission if you choose to accept it" What if Ethan said "No, can't be bothered. I'm gonna have a cup of tea" It should be "You're doing this or you're fired". And as far as I could tell all the missions were not impossible, I mean they did them all. It should be called Mission Doable adjective informal within one's powers; feasible: none of the jobs were fun, but they were doable. Appart from that, the Blu-Ray films are good quality and fun to watch.

Solid Series of Cinema
Each Mission Impossible movie is very different from the previous and each are very well made. The first film is more of a mystery thriller, the second is a full out action movie, the third is a great combination of both while being original in its own regard. I'll be honest, I do not like the second film at all but I felt that getting the entire series (thus far) was a good idea and I am very happy with my decision. The Blu-ray versions of these movies vary in quality, like each film. The first looks okay but far from great, deinitely better than DVD but not by leaps and bounds. The second looks good mostly but again far from great. The third film by far looks the best and is easily sold as high definition. If you are hoping to show off the Blu-ray experience, do not use the first two films. If you are looking for high quality entertainment, this is a solid series.

worked great in my US PS3
This is a phenomenal deal to get the entire trilogy for dirt cheap in the United States. I was worried that it wouldn't work in my Playstation 3 when the first time I popped a disc in it kinda froze up on me, but I tried a different disc in the set and it worked fine, and then I tried the original disc and it was OK as well. A must-buy for the price!

IS THIS BLU RAY?
This review refers to the blu ray quality and has nothing to do with the films themselves since they are well know and need no reviews now. The second film is the only one deserving the Blu-ray signature. The picture and sound are good though not outstanding. The first film is just better than DVD. The third and newest film is the greatest disappointment. The picture is very grainy and I could barely believe it to be blu-ray. I have seen several DVDs with picture much better. The "Paycheck" and "The legend of Bagger Vance" come to mind in this aspect. If you have the DVD copies, I don't recommend buying the blu-ray now. Maybe a better transfer will emerge in the future. If you don't have them the this eddition is recommended. You get three good films with good picture quality "in part" at a quite reasonable price.

EXTREME!!!!
Mission Impossible is the greatest movie series of all time! Tim Allen is great as Ethan Hunt. I can't believe it's him! It's so action packed, starting with the first installment in which he is betrayed by Angelina Jolie's dad. I wish Angelina Jolie were in this movie. I can't believe Tim Allen is in this. I mean, Tool Time, Galaxy Quest, and now Mission Impossible? Epic 1, 2, 3 movies in a tiny package. Movie two, Tim Allen is back to battle the forces of evil terrorists. EVIL TERRORISTS. I know they're out there in the world, but Tim Allen pretty much kills it in his performance as a bad mother effer. Movie three sees him BACK AGAIN. ZOMG. The action DOES NOT STOP WITH TIM ALLEN. I thoroughly enjoyed these series of movies alone on my couch with my dog. I highly recommend them if you've got nothing to do on a Saturday night (me most of the time). Totally better than Toy Story. Tom Cruise was a terrible Buzz Lightyear.

Some of the best Action-Adventure on film
I am a big fan of Tom Cruise. I have seen most of his films. These Mission: Impossible films are great. My wife and I had a MI film festival one Sunday and still love the action and way-out special effects. Tom never ceases to entertain us. We usually go to the theater to see his newest when it come out, then purchase the DVD when available to relive the great movie. If you like action, MI gives it to you without all the blood and guts, just great stories, fantastic locations and special effects and believability from hanging by his fingertips from an rock to sprinting down the side of the highest building in the world, you can't help but be on the edge of your seat.
