Children's Book of Art: An Introduction to the World's Most Amazing Paintings and Sculptures : DK: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Beautifully illustrated book full of good information. - A present for my Granddaughter, to help with her school Art lessons. Well laid out book, nicely illustrated and full of helpful information . Review: Brilliant.. Far Exceeded my expectations.. - Wow, in a word "Brilliant!" I have just finished reading this Children's Book of Art (Dk) and I have to say I'm very impressed. DK have really outdone themselves here. The information is set out in the usual clear, easy to understand format that we all know and love, however on this occasion they have excelled at presenting a concise reference book about Art especially for children, (although I must admit I thoroughly enjoyed, the book myself). The book is a non-fictonal, easy read and the painters, paintings and sculptures they have included will be quite familiar, along with a few lesser or unknown Artist's, all with interesting facts and opening questions about the whole process of Art and the questions of what Art really is. The Paintings and Sculptures featured are displayed in a Large Format on full pages, this allows children to explore the details of some of the Artwork almost as good as seeing them in person,(well not quite but still very good) quite a few have notations indicating the size of the Artwork, which is really helpful in gaining perspective. This was purchased for a 6 year old primarily, however I believe you could flick through the pages with a much younger child, if they have an interest in Artwork or you wish to have them experience some wonderful works of Art from an early age. You also have the added longevity of children returning to this book as they grow older to seek out information for themselves and use it as an excellent reference book. I highly recommend this DK Children's Book of Art for any child's home collection, whether as a home school resource or an interest book to explore the world of Art.

We first borrowed this book from the library, but it's so good that we had to buy a copy. Very inspirational to all. My 6yr old daughter loves it.

I was looking for something just like this. Of course we can count on DK to publish it! They do such a great job with books like this. Educational, fun, and engaging. Although there are other art books out there that cover more content, they will also be thick and expensive, and may include mature themes. For those reasons, if you are in search of an art book to gift to a young person, I recommend this one. Of course it’s impossible to perfectly please all audiences, as everyone has their own favorite artists and styles. But if you know someone who could benefit from a casual introduction to the art world, this book is a good fit. Just to be clear, this book provides a glimpse of select bits of art history and some notable pieces and artists. It’s not an instructional book about technique.

This book is so comprehensive and beautifully crafted even adults can take something from it. Runs through the different kinds of art, styles, famous names from each period, etc. My 7 year old was happy she could recognise some of the most famous pieces from school projects they'd had, and now picks out art as her favourite subject in primary school.
