A swim cap that keeps hair totally dry is the holy grail of swimming, and mankind has still not found a cap that does that. I tried this cap after seeing it reviewed on Consumer Reports. That report claimed it kept people's hair dry, but I was skeptical. The problem is that if you are splashing about in a pool for fun, or submerging for only a minute or two, many caps can keep your hair dry. But if you are swimming laps for fitness, the task of keeping your hair dry is much harder. As a former competitive swimmer, and also as someone who has highlighted hair, I have been searching for a cap that can keep hair dry when swimming laps. This cap was better than any other cap I have tried, but it still allowed my hair to get somewhat wet. Not soaked, but definitely not completely dry. For the test: I tried this in a standard (US) 25-yard lap indoor lap pool, and I swam for about 20 minutes. I have long hair, and I tied it up in a bun before putting the cap on. I swam freestyle, butterfly, and backstroke, and also swam an entire pool length underwater. I did flip turns. Results: It stayed on! It did not move at all, not even when I did flip turns. (This is unusual for a swim cap---most move around, especially when you do flip turns.) The edges of my hairline got wet, but the bun on top of my head stayed dry. Unfortunately, water still trickled in from around the ears and the back of the neck, and so the hair around my hairline was quite damp, although not totally saturated. I only swam for about 20 minutes, though, and the hair that was tied up in the bun was totally dry. Had I swam for a longer period of time, my hair might have gotten wetter, but at the 20 minute mark, it was only somewhat wet, and only at the hairline. You can see the pictures I took. I used a paper towel to show how dry vs how wet my hair got while swimming with this cap on. I also took a picture of the inside of the cap---if you zoom in, you can see that there are water droplets in it, so water was able to get in. But it seemed that water only trickled in, as opposed to most caps that allow water to rush in. Could I have gone to work with my hair at this level of dampness? Yes. Again, I have long hair, and the hair piled on top of my head was still dry, so when I took my hair down, it looked dry to the casual observer. But would I have wanted to go to a formal interview with this level of damp hair? No. Overall, this is the best cap I've tried yet for keeping my hair dry. It's not perfect, but no cap is. All caps have the problem of water coming in around the ears and at the back of the skull, because it is very difficult to get a perfect seal around those contours. But this cap only allowed a small amount of water to get in, as opposed to most other swim caps that move around on your head and allow larger amounts of water to enter. I would buy this cap again. 3.5 stars.

Air tight yet comfortable I am pleased with the cap…especially protective of long hair of any type namely braids.
