Great little gadget!
As others have reported, this little gadget is just brilliant!I'd been contemplating buying one of these for a while, but thought it maybe a gimmick and not really that useful to justify the thirty odd pounds needed (I bought the large one). Then, two days ago, while crocheting a square, the yarn from the ball I was using got all tangled up. All in all, it took me over five hours to untangle everything!!!Sometimes, to avoid this nightmare scenario, I hand-wind new yarn balls/skeins into proper balls, but the problem with this is when you use the balls, they start jumping around and rolling away from you - very annoying!!!This is when this ball winder comes in super-handy. You wind a 'cake' rather than a ball; the top and bottom are flat, there is a large hole in the middle of the cake, where your yarn will come from. This basically means that your yarn cake will sit on a flat surface, your yarn comes out the middle so does not need to move the cake around to allow it to come off the bottom as in a ball for example. So, a great addition to your knitting / crocheting / weaving supplies! For the item itself, it was easy to put together, there is minimal assembly, and the vendor / manufacturer has a video online that goes through the steps. I am not sure this winder will last forever, especially if you must take it apart repeatedly, if you cannot keep it in situ once installed. The components are mainly platic (apart from the yarn guides which are metal). Not a negative, but just a warning for those of you who intend to purchase, the screws are really tiny, so if you have big fingers, you'll want to make sure you work above a surface that will prevent them from rolling off away from you! This will happen a few times! The holes at the bottom on my winder were not quite aligned with the holes on the metal yarn guide, but I managed to dig out a bit of the plastic base with a knife, to allow for the holes to match with those of the metal guide, which they did not originally. When you use it, do not try to wind superfast, if the yarn snaps or if there is a knot or whateve and the yarn jumps out of the guides, it will wind around the moving cogs underneath and could create problems. This has only happened to me twice, and I can honestly say it was because I was trying to win the winding olympics! This thing is such a time saver you do not need to speed-wind!!! Be consistent and keep an eye on your yarn and you will have no problem. All in all, if you work a lot with yarn, I highly recommend this item; if you are a new knitter, only starting out, this is not a necessary object right away.Enjoy!

Jumbo wool winder.
I have been looking recently for a wool winder that could wind at least a 100g ball of wool.I also need to wind 400g balls so will see how that goes and I can amend my review accordingly at a later date.To assemble it was a bit tricky to start with but I got the hang of it.The instructions weren’t much help.It seems to work well.A nice little bonus was the box of stitch holders, tape measure, needle end caps and crochet hooks.I do hope it stands the test of time.In my opinion it’s also a little overpriced.Overall happy!

Good quality
Really easy to make a yarn cake. If you have trouble with the assembly instructions, watch the video on the product listings. Now my yarn won’t get all tangled like before.

Great wool winder
I have previously purchased the large metal wool winder(more expensive), which was ok, but this winder is so much better! This one is easy to put together & much smoother & quieter to use, I would definitely recommend it.

Traipy Yarn Ball Winder
A little bit fiddly to set up but winds a lovely tight neat ball. The clamp is good quality and fits tight to my table.I love it and its perfect for keeping all my left over wool in neat little rounds.
