Frankenstein is one of the great books, yet I wondered why it wasn't written better. After reading this book now I know why!
I primarily bought this book because Mary Shelley and her book Frankenstein play a part in my first novel. I haven't read the entire book yet but enough to solve my own personal puzzle re Frankenstein. I loved the story, but not the writing, blaming it on it's being written long ago.Now I know better.Mary Shelley's book, Frankenstein, was severely tampered with: first by Percy Shelley, then by her publishers, and finally by her father! Mary Shelley's earliest untampered with version is finally brought to light here and it reads wonderfully! It's not wordy or archaic as the versions that had Shelley's, the publisher's, and her father's hand in it.Now the author's version needs to be printed up on it's own and attention brought to her original version. It was mentioned that the very earliest versions have disappeared but many an author does that. However the difference is so striking and her writing so much better than what we came to know as her story, it's obvious that Mary Shelley's version is the best!I thank the Bodleian Library, University of Oxford, and the editor Charles E. Robinson for this timely book.Best Regards, Jacqueline Stigman From Darkness: Book One - AWAKENING (Volume 1)From Darkness: Book One - AWAKENING (Volume 1)
