Feels rather light but don't let that fool you. It pounds a good steak or boneless chicken. You do not even need to pound very hard for this to work because the head is a decent size.

I could never understand why people are selling light weight meat tenderizers/mallets.Isn't the point of a meat mallet to be able to flatten a piece of meat?This is a TRUE meat mallet... not one of those feather weight toys that appear to be designed to flatten paper or flower petals. A nice heft... good double sided patterns... easy to clean... and the handle appears to be made to last.

I've had several different types of these over the years but this one is by far the best. My daughter in law came over and needed to break up some chocolate and she LOVED it , so I sent one.

This meat tenderizer is pretty worthless. It's completely hollow, made of aluminum, and feels like I'm holding a child's toy. After just a few hard hits, and you have to hit things really hard because it's so light, the handle became a little loose and I noticed that the side of the mallet started to come off. The mallet head is not one piece - it's a hollow cube and one of the sides is just held in place with friction/tension - and it started to come off. The positive thing about the very light weight of this item is that it's easy to recover quickly for the next swing.
