Thirteen years after the original series run, the next mind-bending chapter of The X-Files is a thrilling, six-episode event series from creator/executive producer Chris Carter, with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson re-inhabiting their roles as iconic FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. Mitch Pileggi also returns as FBI Assistant Director Walter Skinner – Mulder and Scully’s boss – who walks a fine line between loyalty to these investigators and accountability to his superiors. This marks the momentous return of the Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning pop culture phenomenon, which remains one of the longest-running sci-fi series in network television history. The event series encompasses a mixture of stand-alone episodes and those that further the original show’s seminal mythology. In the opening episode, Mulder and Scully take on a case of a possible alien abductee. The all-new episodes feature appearances by guest stars including Joel McHale (Community), Robbie Amell (The Flash), Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under), Annabeth Gish (The Bridge), Annet Mahendru (The Americans), Rhys Darby (Flight of the Conchords), Kumail Nanjiani (Silicon Valley) and William B. Davis, who reprises his role as "Cigarette Smoking Man." Three of the episodes are written and directed by Chris Carter, with the remaining new episodes written and directed by original series veterans Glen Morgan, Darin Morgan and James Wong. The X-Files originally premiered in September 1993. Over the course of its nine-season run, the influential series went from breakout sci-fi favorite to massive global hit, and became one of the most successful television dramas of all time. The show, which earned 16 Emmy Awards, five Golden Globes and a Peabody Award, follows FBI special agents Scully (Anderson) and Mulder (Duchovny), as they investigate unexplained cases – "X-Files" – for which the only answers involve paranormal phenomena.

The best of the spin offs
I had never managed to gather together the complete set of X-files and I always seemed to miss the box sets coming onto offer.... this time I didn't, I bit the bullet and bought the lot. No regrets at all. The series (11 series + extras) is just as captivating as it was when I was trying to remember to record episodes when it was running on live TV in Germany.A few episodes were a bit weak and the alien abduction starts to become a bit unbelievable but still entertaining. Perhaps the viewer profile is different in the USA to Europe.Worth the investment...go on do it!

Return to the X-Files
After a long series break, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprieve their roles of FBI agents Mulder and Scully in this six episode event series. The belief that aliens are still out there is investigated under the orders of FBI assistant director Walter Skinner, while the mysterious Smoking Man remains in the shadows.Duchovny and Anderson are certainly looking their age now but the series on DVD is worth catching up on for fans of the original nine series. There are also plenty of special features to watch and marvel at.

Brilliant return
After finally seeing the revamped X-files on DVD (I don't own a TV anymore, why bother?) I was pleasantly surprised after alot of the negativity I had read from several fans, but then the internet is full of nutters! The show has definately gone back to it's roots and is very similar to the first 2 seasons, except for the comedy episode that is.The introduction of new characters is certainly to bring in new fans and maybe to continue the show again with other actors on the X-Files. Stephen Amell and Lauren Ambrose are a bit too much like Mulder and Scully, but the characters work well in the story along with Joe McHale's Tad O'Malley. It was nice to see Sheila Larkin and Annabeth Gish back even if only in minor roles, but not such about the bringing back dead characters even though there was a reasonable explanation for the return of the Cigarette smoking man.I don't know why the DVD is being sold as 'The event series' as Fox stated that before it's showing on US TV that it was Season 10. Season 11 looks like it is almost certainly to be made now especially as the show came in at No.7 on the year end Nielson US ratings, but not until next year, so we will have to wait 2 years (2018) for the next installment, and as David Duchovny is exactly the same age as me, he'll be fast approaching 60 when the next season comes out, well 58! Great to have it back, and with so little Sci-fi being made now we need other shows back too. How about Battlestar, Stargate, V & Firefly?
