The Essential Leonard Cohen

This is somewhat of a "Greatest hits", and you know what you'll get! For those who like Cohen and do not have a collection of his separate albums, this is a good place to start (and, for some, to stop, perhaps). You'll find all of the most well-know hits here. What you don not get, is some of the interesting, good songs that are included on the separate albums, nor what came in his late life, like "I want it darker". Og course, the "Hallelujah" is here, in the version that became the standard one for cover versions by various other artists.

I first heard of Leonard Cohen about 10 years ago when a female guest on the radio programme Desert Island Discs chose his Dance Me to the End of Love, saying she and her daughter danced around the kitchen whenever they heard it. I really liked it but didn't think of buying a CD until earlier this year when my husband, who had suffered with Parkinsons for 15 years, was reaching the end of life. I ordered this on 5th of January and it was delivered on Sunday 7th January, the day my husband sadly passed away. My idea was that I would have this played at his funeral. I was unsure whether the mourners would think this a bit odd, but I can tell you that a lot of new fans were made that day. If anyone should want to get only one CD of Leonard Cohen, this double CD is really value for money and must be the best. I play it every day. Can't get enough of it.

I have never bought anything by Leonard Cohen before but heard a programme on the radio just before Christmas and wanted to hear more.. His music is not for everyone but I love this double cd. Lots for your money which cover a big span of his career. If you like Leonard Cohen you will love this.
