Do u have to use this before painting or is it optional?

The angelus leather prep cleans and remove old paint and dye very well. If it's already dyed and not painted I would recommend it.

Can this product and the leather paint be used on faux leather?

Good product - similar to nail polish remover. Just make sure to use gloves because it's a strong solvent.
