Sterling the scarecrow stutters and is laughed at by the crows that are eating the corn he is supposed to be protecting. When the crows start taking over the cornfield Farmer John reminds Sterling of his job to scare them off. Sterling learns one day that he will never be able to scare the crows off. He has learned a new way to protect the corn and make the farmer proud.
