Paper Girls Deluxe Edition Volume 1

My preteen daughters absolutely loved Paper Girls Deluxe Edition Volume 1. The story kept them interested, and they really enjoyed the characters, mystery, and sci-fi elements. The artwork also made it especially engaging for them. They flew through it and were already asking about the next volume when they finished. Definitely a great choice for graphic novel fans!

The art style is probably one of my favorite aspects of this graphic novel. on top of being visually impactful, it is internally consistent with itself (they did not change who did what from edition to edition). It has the feeling of IT, Stranger Things, and any other coming of age YA narrative that is compelling and easy to ready, while not shying away from hard truths (SPOILERS*** EX: one of the characters is a lesbian, another is gets her period, etc. but all of these things happen to the characters, adding to their narrative without defining them or reducing them to one-dimensional parodies of themselves). There is a lot to say about the story. At first, it appears to be a fantasy epic but it quickly morphed into soft sci-fi, which I enjoyed very much (King-esque without all the train-running). Additionally, the pacing is quick, but it does not read like the author is leaving things open-ended unnecessarily. I think my one complaint, (if you can call it that, since the volume has 5-stars from me) is the chrononaughtese. It really takes me out of it when I have to use a cypher to translate from chrononaughtese to english. The upside is that context pretty much reveals everything, and they writer did not include the narrative trick of repeating everything that is not understood in the form of the question by one of the characters.

BKV is a writer most comic book enthusiasts know for his second golden age of comic banger, Y the Last Man, and even some other really great series. Ex Machina, im looking at you. Without spoiling too much, this is a coming of age story about a group of paper girls in the 80's who's worst case scenario is being messed with early Halloween little do they know that somewhere in the boondocks of time is where there little life exists. Soon unwillingly they will be pulled into a series of events that was never / always supposed to happen. The Deluxe edition comes highly recommended over the standard trades due to additional artwork, notes and sketches. Get it. you were never / always going to.

This hardcover edition contains volumes 1&2 and some additional artwork. I think the hardcover is absolutely beautiful and eye catching. The hot pink with holo title is just so striking, I'm excited to display it on my coffee table now that I've read it. As for the graphic novel itself, I am so hooked! It's extremely compelling and entertaining, full of interesting characters, WTF moments, and plot twists. I was so engrossed in the story, I found myself disappointed when it ended and ran out to get Volume 3 immediately. Overall, I think this was a great purchase and was well worth the money. I certainly hope they do another hardcover edition with volumes 3&4!

Beautiful book. The storyline is a bit weird and the writing of the 12 year old girl characters is off, but it’s a fun, quick read and looks stunning.

This book is gorgeous! It is far better than I was expecting! I read a couple of the smaller volumes first and found that buying the deluxe editions would likely be cheaper in the long run. This was worth it to add it to my collection. The art is stunning. The colors are bright and vibrant and it is a large book that reads comfortably. Shipping was fast and the box was well packaged. I love this edition and plan on buying the next one as soon as possible.

Beautiful book and great read. This was an easy read and sweet story line. Absolutely gorgeous book and pages. The artwork is nice. I feel like with comic books you either like or dislike the story line/artwork so I would just do peek at a store copy before buying the nice hardback edition.

Visually stunning book with a bright pink hardcover that pops on my shelf. Vibrant colors on every page. Initially, I wasn't sure if I liked the story, but near the end I was completely hooked.

In this Delux edition, you will find # 1-10, with exclusive extras and a brand-new cover from CLIFF CHIANG This graphic novel starts In the early hours after Halloween of 1988, Erin, Tiffany, Mackenzie, and KJ are 12-year-old newspaper delivery girls who uncover the most important story of all time. Suburban drama and otherworldly mysteries collide in this critically acclaimed story about nostalgia, first jobs, and the last days of childhood. I don’t usually read a lot of Science Fiction, but I gave this graphic novel a chance because I loved the cover. I regret nothing. I LOVE everything about this graphic novel, the illustrations, the story the characters. It's a fun read. It was really well written and well put together. It has a stranger things vibe to it. I love it. I just flew through this graphic novel, I really enjoyed everything about it and I can't wait to read the rest of them.

Love this graphic novel, colors are incredible, book arrived sooner than expected in perfect state.

Amazing story and art! Book itself looks really cool too. Only criticism would be that doesn’t collect too many issues (I finished in one sitting!)
