Just go to YouTube, there are reviews on this model. Not sure what you mean by without the amp and cabs. Maybe your looking to just hear the effects and you don't need the Amp OR Cabs. Yes, you can use it that way and some people go thru all the effect types on that site. Hope this helps.

Best budget Guitar Processor

Nice metal built sturdy body, stomp button are of good quality, exp/volume pedal is nice firm n really responsive, pre designed presets are really nice.

Amazing unit

The unit feels premium. Inbuilt distortion and bass patches are great. Can be used as audio interface(ASIO driver available in official site) hence doesn't require a separate soundcard.The looper is not erasable and hard to synchronize with the drum machine which is a bummer.Seller Chennai Muscials.
