Mind you, you CAN continue to play the game from the official "ending" (like some RPG games) but if you want the full experience of starting over again, from the very wonderful and mysterious beginning you will need to Recharge. Every time you play this game, the decisions, the motion of the game, the outcomes, even the rules, will change. This makes Recharging not only an essential element, but a fun one! For those of you, like myself, who have never played a "Legacy" board game, you are probably asking what IS a Legacy Game? It is a game where your decisions on what to do permanently change the play of the game and the future of the outcome. This means that if you eventually start over (you will need to purchase a Recharge Pack for the game, it is advised you do so now if you are planning on buying this game) the play of the game will be entirely different. Even the rules of the game can and will change depending upon your choices. You will enter this fantasy scenario entirely blind without need for "learning" any "rules" whatsoever. Game play and directions are intuitive. Once you open the box you are guided through step by step and you and your fellow players take the steps and dive right in. You can play with up to 6 players and you can even assign some non-player players to the courses of action.I am trying to be vague purposefully because like a good movie, you don't want to be given any "spoilers" about what you are going to encounter. This game is fun and it has just given me incentive to try out some other "Legacy Games". There is a little touch of open ended RPG Fantasy Adventure video game, a smidge of Sid Meier's Civilization, an element of discovery akin to maybe Clue from the old world, a constantly evolving artificial intelligence that "guides" you and throws down obstacles in your path. There are twists and turns and with each outing (campaign) you will make key decisions towards your eventual ending. This game consists of 12 "campaigns" before it is entirely finished and you then you will need to use a Recharge pack to start all over.When you open the box for the first time, do not let the plain non-descript labelled inset boxes give you a false impression. This is one of the most artistic and beautiful games I've ever seen or experienced. Again, to avoid spoilers it is hard to describe without giving away secrets that add to the luxuriousness of this one of a kind experience. Unique is the best description of CHARTERSTONE, and from what professional reviewers have said of the game I don't believe that only applies to newcomers to these kind of games.It should also be noted that boomers and seniors are enjoying this game a lot as well as the younger gamers, CHARTERSTONE is an adventure for all ages, a joy to play, and again a work of art you build as you play. The most personal feeling of an unveiling as the game progresses is one of the hallmarks of enjoyment here, there are secrets revealed and unexpected turns to take, so if you like a sense of mystery and open-world exploration and sudden cliff-hangers with uncertain futures poised on a balance, then this will be your cup of tea, and see... no spoilers given away. The reviewers who have written reviews prior to the release date of December 14th and only said good-bad-or indifferent in a few words cannot have possibly played this game as it was only available to professional gamer/reviewers and invitees of Stonemaier Games prior to this date (there are some pro reviews out on the internet by good writer/reviewers, but be cautious not to ruin your experience with spoilers. A lot is made of the cleverness of the game design and I have to agree, this is an intellectual reward as well as a fun adventure that can and will appeal to the broadest of character types and ages from somewhat-mature teen to the old codger. In a word, a board game designed for Everybody.

This pack makes the game replayable, which is an excellent thing. We enjoyed the game but want to experience it again with others. Now we can. Also the price was good.

Charterstone is a unique and fun game. The recharge allows for a less expensive path to play again. Most players that finish the game will want to try different paths. This is perfect for scratching that itch.

Love the idea of the refresh pack. would like to see better instructions on how to reset the game. Directions say reset to how it looked when you opened the box originally. I didn't open the box originally so I didn't know what that looked like. Had to watch a couple unboxing videos on YT

Stonemaier games unselfishly and ingeniously had the foresight to create a double sided board for Charterstone. We were gifted a copy of the game that had already been played on one side of the board. The ability to buy this re-charge pack so we could use the other side of the board and play a fresh game is awesome and much appreciated.This kit only includes a new rule book (you customize and edit the rules as you play), new cards, and new versions of expendable components. You still need a copy of the base game with the original permanent components.It’s a great value and makes a somewhat expensive game much more affordable as you can usually find used copies of the original for around $10 on Facebook marketplace or your local gaming groups.

After finishing all the campaigns for this legacy game, we purchased the recharge pack so we could customize the backside of our game board. The recharge pack has all the cards and stickers we needed to create our own custom game by placing building stickers where we wanted them on the game board. We enjoy our custom version of Charterstone just as much (perhaps even a little more) than the legacy campaigns. If you enjoyed Charterstone and want to play it again (using the other side of the game board), the rechage pack works great to either start a brand new campaign OR create a custom board that can be used over and over.

This is a great game, and the recharge pack lets you play the campaign again.However, you should know that the box for some reason or other doesn't include detailed instructions on how to "recharge" the original game. If you're like me, you probably don't remember which components were in which tuck boxes. There's a FAQ on the Charterstone website. In spite of this oversight, I'm giving the recharge pack five stars because our family loves the game so much.

My wife and I loved playing through Charterstone the first round through. This pack allows you to reset the game to a fresh box status. It includes all the cards that were originally in the Index, new instruction manuals (since the old ones have modifications on them), and the other item you need for box "iii" (intentionaly vauge to avoid spoilers). With this, you can reset the game and play from scratch on the back side of your game board. It's totally worth it!On a side note, I recommend placing "playthrough 1's" index and game cards in the spacer in the box. That will allow you to keep it separate while from your new campaign without giving up on the uncompleted crates and buildings of the first campaign since you can keep playing with them after the campaign is complete.

Charterstone ist ein schönes Legacy Spiel. Nachdem man die Kampagne durchgespielt hat (12 Partien), hat man das Spielmaterial verändert und kann auf diesem individuellen Spielplan weiterhin spielen. Um jedoch die Kampagne erneut zu spielen benötigt man dieses Recharge Pack und kann auf der Rückseite des Spielplans erneut beginnen.Das Recharge Pack ist mittlerweile schwer zu bekommen und so war ich froh, es hier auf amazon noch zu finden. Leider handelt es sich entgegen der Produktbeschreibung um die englische Version NICHT die deutsche!Inhaltlich ist das komplette Material an Karten, Tuckbox-Stickern und Feldern enthalten, dass während des Spiels geändert wird. Preislich ist das Pack leider ziemlich teuer, daher 1 Stern Abzug.

Came as described! Shipping took a while, but it is COVID times, so I expected just as much. Has the same quality replacement parts as the original board game came with, and boxes match so they blend seemlessly together on my shelf. A great way to make use of an already been played game

perfect way to add an extra campaign to the reverse of the original board allows for much improved gameplay options for less
