Great for color matching and beyond
The goal of Picture Palette is to identify the colors in the picture and arrange them in front of the picture on the paint palette. They can go in any order. The pictures are simple, easily identifiable, and they all contain five colors. The set contains 16 two-sided cards, to make 32 pictures to match. The color coins are nice and thick and large enough to easily grasp, as the photo next to the US Quarter shows. The wooden edges of the palette are smooth and the color chips are glossy and fun to hold.It might be difficult to tell the difference between red and orange, so the cards that contain both those colors together might best be put aside for more advanced play. Only five of the cards contain both colors together, and one of them is a fruit bowl with an obvious apple, orange, and banana in it. This would be a good card to use to introduce the two colors together on one card. The game has several play options included in the instructions, but when I first saw the game I envisioned a few more:* For more advanced players, track the colors top to bottom or left to right. Which color comes first at the top? Which color is at the bottom? Which color comes first on the left? Which one is last on the right? Some pictures will be better suited to this than others. Use your favorites, and place the color disks onto the palette to follow the stated direction.* Shape play - Pick a picture. What shapes to you see? Can you draw those shapes onto another piece of paper? What does a circle look like?* Position - which objects are behind other ones in the pictures? Which ones are in front? On top? Below?* Which pictures are clothing? Transportation? Food? Animals? Organize by things you find on the ground and things you find in the air.* What is the dominant color? Pick a picture, and identify which color is used the most. Which color is used the least?* Drawing - The pictures are simple. Show the child which shapes go into the pictures and how to construct them. Then color them with different colors than the ones pictured. Does the house look different with a blue roof? How about a white one?Incorporating some of these ideas in addition to the ones listed in the instructions will expand the game beyond 6 years. These activities encompass math, language, and creativity skills. I really like this game.

Super high quality game for toddlers! So happy with this!
So I was actually extremely surprised to open this game, and feel the high quality materials included. The cards are thick cardboard, not flimsy pieces of paper. They are not laminated, which I'm fine with as I try to reduce plastic use. A toddler would have to work pretty hard to bend these cards! They're about as thick as a board book page.It says ages 3-6, but developmentally you could introduce it much much earlier, as soon as your toddler is interested in colors. My 2.5 yo is ahead for communication, and knew all the included colors before he was 2. So now at 2.5, he liked the game, but it didn't hold his attention for very long because it's not that challenging. My point is, don't think a 3 YO will be enthralled with this, and definitely introduce it much earlier. The color circles are a good size for toddlers, if you zoom in on my photo you can see a nickel placed next to the palette. It's very satisfying for a toddler to put the circle colors into the palette as they fit just like a wooden puzzle. This is definitely a game that can be set out on a Montessori-style shelf for my 2.5-year-old, once I show him how to play. While there are several pieces to this, it's not an excessive amount that I worry about him throwing them all over the place and not being able to find them.I highly recommend this game for toddlers to learn color matching, and it is definitely a giftable product.

Fun and educational!
Very impressed with the quality of these cards. They have held up well! My 5yo & 3yo enjoy this activity. It wasn’t challenging enough for my 5yo, she blew threw all the cards and lost interest. To switch it up we started choosing our own picture/scene and she has loved that so far!! I also appreciate the skillmatics tips that were included in packaging, it has given us multiple play/educational options!Keeping it in the box wasn’t my favorite storage option, the box got worn out quite quickly. Decided to store it in a mesh bag, quick fix!Overall, it’s a great option to help your children with color recognition!

Good Activity
This is a neat little activity to do with your kids. It doesn't just teach them their colors, it's also helping them work on analysis and visual perception. I like that the cards are heavier so they will hopefully hold up longer. The color circles are bright and easy to identify. The pictures are simple and uncluttered, and the different colors are easy to pick out and identify. The only thing I would change is the way the card stands in the tray. It is straight up-and-down when you put it in, and it would be easier if it sat a slant and tilted up. Right now I am just laying the card face up over the slot to stand it in, as this is easier for my child to see the card.

Excellent for what it is
This is an extremely basic concept, but it’s of excellent quality. You choose a card and then find the colors that are used in that picture. It’s good for increasing observation skills, sorting, etc. With a little imagination, you could come up with a number of ways to expand the use of this set. Cards are thick and sturdy enough to withstand years of use.

Such a fun game!
Wow I am impressed with this game! My son loves it, and it really helps work on his observation skills. The pieces are all made of wood, so it feels sturdy and high quality. I never thought such a simple game would be so engaging for a toddler, but it’s complex enough that it challenges him, but simple enough that he can play by himself and show me his results. He’s 2 1/2 years for reference. I only wish there were more colors so he can be further challenged!

great toy!
This is literally perfect for my 20 month old toddler. He likes playing with it and I think it will be even more appropriate in a few months when he's closer to 2 years. So it says 3 years old on the package but I definitely think you can give it to a 2 year old or someone a little over 2. I think a 3 yr old would get bored of it. The toy is made well and the cards are thick and strong. The little color blocks are sturdy and bright. Highly recommended!
