Murky is normal at first, it goes away!!
The lava lamp is great!! PSA: to anyone who says that the liquid inside is murky and you can’t see the bubbles you just have to run it 2-3 times and the liquid clears up!!! Your item is NOT defective. All of the teeny tiny wax particles in the liquid just need to melt fully and then the liquid becomes clear. It takes multiple times running the lamp to do so. I am at about.10-12 hours now and it’s starting to become completely clear inside. The first time I turned it on it was completely cloudy. This is normal, don’t worry just keep running it!!!

Cloudy AF
Cloudy and not clearing even after following all instructions from the manufacturer. All that came of weeks of effort to clear it was a disappointed kid. Update: Ordered the blue and green one, asked to return the cloudy "blue/purple" which just looked white (as you can see). Blue/green arrived clear and fine. Amazon is only offering like $25 to return the purple. So, whatever. Not bothering to return it. Dont buy the purple/blue!!!

This particular one was defective.
Arrived SUPER densely colored liquid. Looked like it was filled with light blue Gatorade. Couldn't see the wax on the inside. So, doing some research I found that to be a common problems and ways to help fix it. While running it the 1st time I noticed there was wax hanging out at the top and bottom of the lamp. Somehow the wax had separated on the 1st run. So more research to try to save this lamp and while testing one method, I noticed blue liquid on my desk. The seal was defective on the lid... So most likely going to return it and replace it with a different one. The one my son got for Christmas (same brand) works great, so I guess I was just lucky lol

Exactly like the lava lamps from my childhood — beautiful colors but slow to heat
This is the lava lamp of my childhood — exactly the same look, same movement, same vibe. It’s the official LAVA brand, so I knew I couldn’t go wrong. I couldn’t decide on a color, so I ended up buying all three. Aesthetically, they’re great. The green and pink versions are especially beautiful; the blue one feels a little less impressive in real life, but still nice. Once they’re warmed up, the lava flows really well and looks exactly like it should. The only thing is that they’re quite slow to heat. It takes a while before the wax really starts moving, though I’m pretty sure that’s just how lava lamps work in general — it’s part of their nature. The metal part does look a bit cheap up close. Not a dealbreaker, but something to know if you’re expecting a premium finish. The glass and the colors, though, are spot-on. If you love lava lamps or want that nostalgic glow in your home, this is definitely the brand to choose. Final verdict: Classic lava lamp look, beautiful colors (especially green and pink), slightly cheap metal base, and slow to heat — but the nostalgia and glow are perfect.

Bubble Machine
A bunch of reviews say this lamp is cloudy. And sure, you think: “Okay, maybe people are impatient or don’t know how lava lamps work.” and it makes sense, right? We live in the age of instant gratification and all. Nope. It depends on whether you got a good lamp… or one of the MANY defective ones. Mine arrived cloudy/milky and I followed the instructions exactly. I ran it for hours. I did multiple cool-down cycles. I gave it DAYS. And yes, the liquid got a little clearer… just enough to reveal the real problem: The wax is FULL of bubbles. Not a couple. A RIDICULOUS amount. The blobs literally look aerated, like someone whipped the wax like they were trying to make whipped cream in there. That’s not “shipping particles.” That’s a manufacturing defect and it's not hard to figure that out. I even emailed the company directly asking for a replacement globe, because clearly this one is defective. Their response was basically: “Cloudiness is normal, keep cycling it for 1–2 weeks… and if you're not happy return it to Amazon.” So just to be clear: the company does NOT help you. They're great if you want someone to repeat to what the box insert says. Reach out, they'll repeat it to you in a longer version. They just push you back to Amazon which is surprising Amazon allows it honestly. And here’s the part that matters: This company has been making lava lamps since 1965. That’s 61 years of producing the same basic product. If something stays relevant for 61 years, it’s because it’s basically a 5-star idea and people liked it a 5-star rate. So how does a product this simple and timeless end up sitting at 3.6 stars? Answer: quality control is non-existent and customer service doesn't exist. Some people get a good lamp (very few though it appears). Others get cloudy junk that they're little "helpful" booklet doesn't help. How cloudy? I can't see my fingers on the other side of the lamp through what? 3 inches of liquid? But don't worry, I'm sure it'll clear before the Universe itself ends, I'll be long gone but not the company's problem apparently. If you get a good one, great. But if you get a bad one like mine, don’t expect the company to make it right, they see it as Amazon's problem.

I ordered a different one from somewhere else and they kept a big chunk of purchase price to return. This company does not. I accidently wrote a wrong review so I want to make it clear that this product is exactly as described. Shipped quickly and arrived early. Works very well. Very satisfies amd will buy another for another gift.

First one shipped broken (I think it was a return?) but the second replacement has been working away without issues for a while now.

Given so many reviews mention they received what looked like previously returned products looking cloudy, I wanted to add my experience with getting a unit which I also believe was previously returned. It arrived with the spring askew near the bottom and all. I followed the manufacturer's instructions and let it settle for a couple of hours before turning it on. Then I put it on a timer outlet and let it cycle 2h on 2h off for about 8 hours. Then I let it settle while off for some 8h, and put it on a 6h on then 6h off for a few days. After that, I had a very dynamic and good looking lamp. It did look a slight bit cloudy, but now, after several months, it looks great! So while I am ready to accept I may be lucky and got a really good unit, the fact it looked returned (cable wrapped sloppily, etc), my lamp survived all this and operates like it should, as far as I can tell. Forum posts seem to indicate these lamps, although not the best they've ever been, are also a lot easier to make work despite motion during shipping, and that has been my experience.
