Beautiful Set
I didn't know that a brick bonsai set would be as pretty as this, but I gotta say it is lovely. The instructions were easy enough and we put it together in a couple hours. I did like the instruction booklet as it took each step slow and made sure that there were clear diagrams. Would get this brand again.

Fantastic miniature scene
I've built my share of building sets - OK, I've built a lot of peoples' shares of sets. This is a true standout.Botanical sets are all the rage these days, but this is really so much more than that. The tray is beautifully detailed with decorative elements all around. The scene itself is incredibly well designed, forming not just a single bonsai, but a full peaceful garden with water features and landscape elements, even a pair of mini-minifigs to inhabit this tranquil paradise. All the plastic feels to be high quality, though there were a few pieces that didn't hold terribly well together. I really like mini block sets now, with the amount of detail you can get in a smaller space. I cannot recommend this set enough.

Tiny but Wonderfully Crafted
This tiny bonsai tree was immediately appealing to me because I love LEGO sets, and I am also interested in bonsai trees. In addition, I am always looking to supplement my LEGO sets with interesting trees.Unfortunately, the bricks in this set are much smaller than LEGO bricks, even though they look the same from the photographs and promotional material. The bricks are incompatible with LEGO. The good thing about the smaller brick size is that the set takes up less space and their use allows beautiful sets like this to be affordable. The bad thing about the smaller brick size is that it was slightly painful to snap on all the single stud flowers. The set itself is very much for adults, in both construction and appeal. My 5 and 7 year-old boys couldn't be less interested. As an adult, though, I really enjoyed this build. Aesthetically, I like the set more than the LEGO Bonsai set. The tree is very similar to the LEGO set but the small tweaks make it look slightly better, in my opinion. The pond, Tori gate, and lanterns are nice additions that create a beautiful atmosphere and really add to the set. I just wish it was LEGO sized. One misstep is that the little people that come with the set are too big to walk under the Tori gate, and to me that breaks the immersive fantasy some.Construction-wise, my large man fingers were definitely a little sore after snapping on all the single-stud flowers, especially in bag four where there are tons of these flowers. Construction of the tiny pieces is definitely a little more challenging than LEGO bricks. The set uses a few smart and wise build techniques, and the end result is really great. I did find it a little difficult to place the smooth pieces on the side of the stand vertically. It was also a little difficult to place the landscape into the stand and I was scared I would break the set. Fortunately, that was not the case.I would also like to point out that the coloring of the bricks has this marbled affect (as shown in the third photograph) which I found to be a little too repetitive. In addition, the green plates have some slight variation in color. These issues weren't very noticeable with the final product.Overall, this is a really beautiful little adult set that fits easily on my slim book case. The mini-blocks are sadly not compatible with LEGO bricks and a little more difficult to work with.

A fun and pretty mini-block set
My daughter loves this style of mini-block kit because they are a fun challenge to put together and the end result is small enough to display on a book case without taking up too much space. This kit was a big hit and had good directions that a 12 year old can easily follow. The finished product is really cute and looks just like the photos.

A huge disappointment
I'm not sure how the other reviewers were able to even achieve the finished product. The instructions didn't match the pieces inside, many pieces had to be superglue together, and even with all of that tedious work the tree would not even fit into the base. To say that this was a disappointment is an understatement. If I could get a refund, I would, definitely not worth the purchase.

Had so much fun with this one.
DESIGNSo much more detailed than the Lego brand bonsai kit which also costs more. This isn't just a plant in a pot its a whole environment. Complexity wise the hardest thing was making adjustments to all the leaves to get it just right whilst not breaking anything off. Enjoyment wise; if you love working the small details kits or the condensed environment ones then you'll probably love this.ASSEMBLYI took my time with this one, spaced it out over several days. Was a good progress project with build phases broken down by bag. Nothing overly complicated but with the smaller scale came the regular minor annoyance (for adult fingers anyways). Only one minor build issue I had was with the fitting on a couple plant stems that needed a tiny dab of super glue to fix because the slightest touch would pop them off.INSTRUCTIONSThe instruction manual is a large booklet; well spaced, crisply printed, and mostly color correct. The format has plenty of clear bordering and placement indicators to break down portions of each step.COMPATIBILITYThe pieces in this kit are considerable smaller than, and not compatible with, Lego brand pieces.

So cute
I love mini building sets, especially the ones with more pieces - they're more challenging but the miniature size is so cute. For the bonsai and building set lovers out there, this is the perfect set. It has a great variety, small footprint, and enough of a challenge to keep you engaged through several building sessions. Probably better for older kids or adults, the mini pieces will require more dexterity.
