Very strong smell
Just sprayed this and oh my goodness it's so strong. Felt awful to breathe in. So the mice will hate it I'm sure. Looks like a great product. My neighbour said he had a mouse infestation and they were keeping him awake at night running around. I lent him my bottle and saw him today. He said he sprayed everywhere and heard absolutely nothing all night. So we hope the mice moved on. Really effective product!!

Ingredients and how they actually work
Here’s a breakdown of how each of ingredients of this rodent deterrent concoction works in repelling rats and mice, one by one:1. Peppermint oilEffect on rats and mice: rats and mice have a highly sensitive sense of smell. Peppermint oil contains menthol, which has a strong, sharp scent that irritates their nasal passages and masks the food smells they follow.Reaction: It confuses, overwhelms, and discourages them from nesting or exploring treated areas.---2. Eucalyptus oilEffect on rats and mice: eucalyptus oil has a powerful, sharp odor. Its active compounds (like eucalyptol) are unpleasant to rodents.Reaction: causes discomfort, irritates their nose and possibly their respiratory system, driving them away.---3. Citronella oilEffect on rats and mice: while best known for repelling insects, citronella’s strong citrus-like smell is also disliked by rodents.Reaction: disorients rodents by masking food scents and creating an environment that feels unsafe.---4. Lemon (oil or peels)Effect on rats and mice: lemon contains limonene and citral, compounds with a strong citrus aroma that rodents hate.Reaction: works similarly to citronella — it irritates their senses and makes an area smell "unnatural" and uninviting.---5. Chilli (powder or oil)Effect on rats and mice: chilli contains capsaicin, a natural irritant.Reaction: if inhaled or if it contacts their paws or face, it burns or irritates, making them avoid the area aggressively.---6. Lavender oilEffect on rats and mice: lavender has a calming effect on humans but the strong floral scent is unpleasant to rodents.Reaction: it confuses and discourages them, especially in combination with other stronger irritants.---7. Clove oilEffect on rats and mice: clove oil contains eugenol, which has a very sharp, spicy scent.Reaction: highly irritating to rodents' sensitive noses; acts like a natural chemical barrier.---How they work together→ When combined, these ingredients overwhelm the sensitive noses of rats and mice from multiple angles — minty, citrusy, spicy, floral, and pungent smells all at once.→ This confuses them, hides food scents, irritates their breathing, and makes the space feel hostile and uncomfortable.

Smell
This rat deterent has quite a pleasant s.ell . If it works or not I don't know it's been 2 days of spraying the garden borders as I see 2 rats in my neighbours garden where they throw bird food on the floor . And I've had them before when disgusting families rent a flat behind our garden leave their waste everywhere and the rats munched through my shed ruining my lawnmower, powertools and my sons frame pool .

Worked for us
We has a mouse and a rat in the garden. The mouse became quite brave and would wander around while we were sitting out. It was so cute but then I noticed it hanging around the back door. Thought I'd better take action before it got inside, but I didn't want to harm it. This spray did the trick after one dose. It has a strong menthol smell but it soon fades to the human nose. Luckily it didn't put the birds off coming to the garden. I would recommend.

Doesn't work
I don't think it helps. Rats run around the garden and don't care about the smells of this oil.

Smells nice but no deterrent
I’ve been using this every evening in dry conditions for about 10 days and the rat is back every morning. He is also ignoring the baited live trap I bought. I like the humane approach to deterrent but nothing’s worked yet.
