We bought it after an operation on my dogs leg and he wouldn't leave the wound alone to heal. The fabric is quite thin, and he wore through the elbow of the sleeve quite quickly, between lying on it and licking at it. If it's cushioning you're after this won't help. The definitive answer may have to come from the manufacturer - designed in the Netherlands and made in India. The label says its 97% cotton and 3% lycra, so you could compare it to a T-shirt, but much thicker. We've used these sleeves on two of our dogs - our previous German Shepherd for post-operation protection - our current Lab to stop him licking and damaging his fur on his front legs overnight (one on each leg). Neither of our dogs seemed to suffer with sweating beneath the sleeves. I recall that our vet mentioning that removing the sleeve from time to time after our dog's op would help the healing process.
