Motion Sensor - Compatible with Gen 2 Home Security System

We are very happy with the SimpliSafe system. Originally we got one for someone else and then bought our own. We have had permanently wired alarm systems at 3 prior homes and this does everything those systems did. Installation is easy, the tech support people helpful and the alarm center monitoring very good. The motion sensors are very sensitive and the cameras perform well.

I bought this to replace a 6-7 year old motion sensor. The batteries last a little over a year, but this time, a new battery just wouldn't work, so I bought another. They are cheap enough not to worry about, and the one I had was WAY out of warranty. I only use the motion sensors when we are away. for us, in a small house, the motion sensors are a bit of a PITA when we are home, so I set them up to only turn on when when we are away. I also installed this one upside down, these devices can sense movement forward, and in a 90 degree angle to the left, the right, and downward. Even though I have the pet filter tuned on, my cat would still trigger it. So I installed it upside down, so that it would sense forward, left, right and upward. I then placed it at roughly human head height. That way, only humans will trigger the device. (Well, elephants too, but they hardly ever do a B&E according to police) BTW, this is a common setup procedure for heat sensitive sensors with highly directional sensitivity.

Works well

Work fine and stick well with no drilling. Almost invisible on walls. Easy to connect to existing system.

Works with Gen3 base station. Easy connect and set up. Range is a bit limited. Would be nice if Simplisafe makes a signal booster or provide external antennae option. it is possible to modify these sensors for extended range, but I found another solution.

i'm not saying SimpliSafe is the best way to go, but I use it and if you have it and want to add motion sensing, this is a good way to do it - price and fast shipping

I bought this product and when it arrived I tried to link it with my system, and it would not connect...at all. I figured I must have gotten the wrong one, but I decided to look further... Turns out my system is indeed Gen 3, but the firmware was not updated. So I made sure to bring my base and keypad close to my modem so they had good wifi signal. I unplugged the base and removed the batteries to allow easier firmware update. After 3 minutes I replaced the batteries and plugged in the base. After it was connected to wifi I used the keypad to update the firmware. This took about half an hour. After the firmware was updated I tried to connect the sensors and they worked just fine.

Was worried about pets triggering. It senses and identifies my dogs and does not trip my system when armed. This is the newer generation sensor. You simply tell the system that you have pets during setup. Super easy!!! Works great and captures all movement in the space as designed.
