Revision books are nearly always useless. The problem is that they present a condensed version of a course which is either useless if you have a complete textbook or have to be a complete copy of a text book. The value of a revision book is in the act of the student creating their own revision book.That said when it comes to english language there a remarkably few textbooks so you may find that your only option if you want a single point reference for the course content is to look at a revision guide. In that context this does its job well but it remains a poor substitute for a good teacher or textbook.

As a home educator, my children have to enter IGCSEs as external candidates, so these books are invaluable in preparing for IGCSEs.Each one is clearly written, including a breakdown of how many papers you may sit, what they entail, how long they take, followed by worked examples showing you the sort of information a question would be looking for you to extract from a text, or tips on what to include in creative writing tasks.It's the sort of direction that helps to make exams feel more of a task that can be achieved instead of a barrier to getting a grade.The final chapter includes a set of sample exam papers, which could be used by a student to take a timed practice exam.You also get an online copy so study can happen anywhere (no excuses!)My son has been finding this book invaluable to prepare to sit IGCSEs although he hasn't worked all the way through it yet.You can always rely on CGP to give you the text book tools you need to succeed in your studies.They are written in a friendly, conversational way that builds confidence the subject can be tackled & providing worked examples is really useful for independent study when you don't have a teacher to hand to explain what you should/shouldn't have done.
