A couple of negatives, but Chucky's back - who can't be happy about that
So right up front I'll admit I am a chucky fan from the first movie to the last, so I had reasonably high expectations going into this one.The storyline picks up where the last movie left off, and it feels like a good fit with all the previous films. But sadly there were quite a few things in this movie that weren't "chuckyish".The doll has been reinvented slightly and I don't like it. It's not true to "Chucky". He has a prettier face that is more in keeping with the doll he's possessed but part of my love of chucky is that he is so loveably ugly in most of the other movies. It feels like they let a makeup artist lose and she's done things she shouldn't have. Also there are a number of scenes in the movie that are "arty" and beautiful. I'm not sure if it's someone thinking they're going to put their spin on things or wanted to do things there way - but we expect certain things from a chucky movie. And while some of the scenes are beautiful they actually broke the atmosphere for me and made me feel like the movie had been high-jacked for a couple of scenes by another movie. So I started with the negatives, but here are the positives. It's chucky! It's the usual chucky sarcastic humour that we love so much with some new spins that are completely in character for him.Fiona Dourif is brilliant in her role, and I hope they keep her around for the next four or five sequels that are likely to come. She's a believable character and personally I'm a new fan of her work based on this film.Jennifer Tilly is back in this one, and she is true to her original character. The same usual humour and it felt like she'd never been away.As per all chucky films there is copious amounts of slashing and gore, and brutal deaths that caused us to fall in love with Chucky. There's a great twist at the end that I won't spoil for you - and it sets up that another batch of movies will be heading our way in the future. So while there were a couple of negatives, I did enjoy having Chucky re-enter my life and I will definitely be tuning in for the next movie. Just hope that they take the "pretty makeovers" out and stay true to the chucky we know and love.

Child's Play 7 - don't laugh, it's good
While most 30-year-old horror franchises would be running out of steam by the time they hit a 7th instalment, Chucky has had a surprisingly solid run so far by constantly reinventing himself (pun intended) and having fun by reversing audience expectations. I credit writer/director Don Mancini and producer David Kirschner with this curious quality control. They have been with the series from the very beginning and are careful when it comes to telling a new story rather than just cranking out a cheap cash-in. It's strange to think that Chucky, as a series, has far more integrity than any of his peers.Fiona Dourif (hauntingly beautiful and her dad's exact double) returns as Nica, now confined to a mental hospital after no one believes her claim that Chucky is alive. But one person out there does believe her - Andy Barclay. He's lived his life in seclusion and become a loner after his struggle with Chucky in the past, to the point where Chucky has imprinted on him in some irreversible way. They might even be friends (to the end) in a strange twist.Nica's psychiatrist produces a Chucky doll during their sessions to help get over the fear and find out what is truly going on in her head. Meanwhile, two more Chucky dolls show up in the hospital and fellow patients start dying horribly. Which one is the real Chucky? Are they all Chucky?Mancini handles the suspense very well and takes a far more sober and sombre approach (especially when compared to the 5th movie) with a quiet, chilling winter atmosphere (dare I say Xmasy) and the right amount of teasing and fake-outs. Brad Dourif is hilarious once more, bringing back the humor that was missing from the previous movie, while Jennifer/Tiffany hints as something else brewing outside of the hospital.Cult of Chucky is one of the best in the series so far. I just wish that Mancini would bring back Graeme Revell as his themes from Child's Play 2 and Bride of Chucky were the best of the series. Joseph LoDuca does a fine job however.Don't brush this off as a cheap cash-in. Chucky is not going downhill just yet and fans of the series will surely love this one.The Blu-ray looks great in 1.78:1 1080p with DTS HD-MA sound and some small, fluff extras including a commentary.

Great 7th instalment
Fiona Dourif who plays Nika is a chip off the block- her dad voices Chucky and plays Charles Lee Ray. She deserves to be a big name in tge acting community. Excellent movie. Also nice to see the original Andy Barclay actor in the role he first made when he was a child. Nicely executed movie with a Hitchcock vibe. Gotta love Jennifer Tilly.

Chucky at his crazy best
A lot of people have given this film negative reviews, I however loved it. The Chucky Fx this go around are closer to the Yagher FX and the Good guy doll was modelled after the Yagher prop. I liked this film sound acting sound FX and good pacing. The multiple Chucky angle was funny I found it very entertaining 😀
